These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

From the Sublime to the Chili

OK, I started out with a plan to blog posting a wonderful picture I took recently. Beautiful picture of blue sky with a little spot of clouds and the sun behind it, causing sun rays to fan out. Very pretty, peaceful. I wasn't sure what I was going to blog about it. When I signed on, I took a quick walk through several other blogs, and I found, to my sorrow, that little Millie passed away early this morning. She and her family had a wonderful summer that was fairly problem free, and when the tumor took hold again, it was mercifully a quick and quiet end. As I read the blog, I cried. Isn't it amazing how we "live" the lives of fellow bloggers?

I knew when I signed off that blog, that my picture was a perfect one for posting in memorial for Millie. However, when I tried to upload it, blogger said "huh-uh!" I've tried since about 8:00 this morning without being able to upload any picture. I'll try to post the picture when blogger will allow me.

Now for the ridiculous part of this post . . . I read a little note at Write On about she and her honey having chili for dinner. He likes his chili with noodles in it, she likes hers with cheese on top and with Fritos. I struck me funny because my late husband liked macaroni in his chili. I like mine plain or with cheese, sometimes chopped onion, and Fritos on the side is great! I remembered that my daughter's ex-inlaws put sweet pickle relish in their chili. So I started wondering . . . how do you like your chili? with beans or without? with cheese? with chopped onions? with pickles? with noodles or macaroni? with Fritos? with cornbread? with tortillas? What else? I'll bet there are some other additives and sides that people like, so let us all know just how weird you are!!! C'mon, confess, what's your strange way of eating chili?

Have a good weekend, everyone!!

  1. Lyn, you'll groan at this one, but I truly like my chili best in my mouth. The only way I've tried it that I don't like it is when it is too fiery hot. I like it OK spicy, but there is a limit. I still fondly remember some venison chili that Granny made a few times.

  3. Hey, you 2 are boring!! s3, I do remember that, one of the best ways to have venison in my opinion. Cameo, I agree on thick, but I've never been a fan of crackers in it. Just individual taste, eh?

  5. Millie reminds me once again how incredibly bless I am to have celebrated The Boss's 6th birthday this week.

  6. walker - You're right, but I still get surprised at times about how involved blogging allows us to be. Rice? That's a new one for me!!

old - And you put sour cream (OK, I can see that) and a HOT DOG?? wow!! Now, do you mean *in* the chili or on the side in a bun w/fixings? Re The Boss's BD, I agree. I've been thinking about my experinces with miscarriage and how close we were to losing TL, and my heart just aches for Millie's family. We need to be reminded sometimes, I think.

  7. traci - There are those crackers again!! LOL. I'm wishing I had ingredients for chili now. It's a cool afternoon, and it would taste very good with just about any ingredients listed above!.

Lynilu, My Mom taught me the best recipe for chili, which I adapted a bit... I will paraphrase it:
Ground Beef skilleted with chili powder salt and pep (not the lean kind), Cans of chili beans, Can(s) of V8 or Veggie juice, Onion, optional: green red pepper, tomatoes, hot sass.
Oh man, good stuff. I used to make it with extra Veggie juice, it's more like chili soup. And I like Corona in there. MMM, Soooo tasty!

  10. Steve - I often use V8 juice as a base, also. It surely gives a great flavor, doesn't it? Much better than just tomato in my opinion.

mrhaney - I'd forgotten about tossing in some corn on occasion! That is good! Yeah, I'm craving it also, and I think Im going to make a small pan of chili. Wait. Is it possible to make a *small* pot of chili? I don't know.
