These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

A Good Beginning

I'm happy! I just went into Ruidoso to see about my tires. Yes, that made me happy!

If you remember, I had a flat in December, and had to drive a couple miles on it because I couldn't get off the road. Having done that, I knew it was probably ruined. I also figured my tires were getting close to needing replaced, so I thought I'd just get it done and get it over with.

I really like Big O. I've found them to be really honest and up front, a very good deal. I feel like I can trust what they tell me about the condition of tires, which makes me feel so much safer on the road. When I've compared tires, they have given me information that helps me make decision, and often they recommend the less expensive tire for this reason or that. I appreciate that. I don't want to cut corners on safety, but I want to spend the least necessary.

This morning was no exception. As I braced to buy four tires, four expensive big ol' 20 inch wide truck tires, I began talking with the guy about it. He looked at all five tires, and he was surprised that the tire that went flat didn't look bad at all. He said he wouldn't trust it under the circumstances, however, as driving even a couple miles on a flat does damage, and I agree 100%. Two of the tires, the flat and the other rear tire, are borderline and would have to be replaced soon, but the front two are good. So I was thinking, OK, I'll have to buy two tires, but to my delight he said I needed to buy just one new one. The spare and the new one will go on the ground, and the borderline-but-good tire will be my spare! Eeeeehawwww! I like that! It's still gonna be $220 for the one, but I was thinking I was facing $1000, so I'm delighted!!

My new year has started out well! How 'bout yours?

  8. Caroline, nothing makes you feel more secure, does it? I forgot to say that they had to order the tire in, 'cause it wasn't in the store, but I'll have it tomorrow or Monday. Whew!

  14. IE, no shiloski! I was dreading it! I'll probably have to buy a couple more by next winter, but I can save my pennies in a jar toward it.
