These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Summer Do's and Puppy Don'ts

.

First I have to tell you about a funny thing that happened this morning. Max was playing with the shopping specials flier from a local grocery, batting it around , grabbing it in his teeth and shaking it. He heard something outside, dropped the newspaper, and ran outside. When he came back in he did not return to the paper which he had dropped with one end slightly over the air vent.

A few minutes later, he stood barking furiously at something. I couldn't see what it was, so I walked from the kitchen and saw this:

The newspaper was fluttering in the air coming from the heat vent! It wasn't going anywhere, but just bobbing up and down slowly. Max was really freaked about the strange thing that was apparently threatening him!!

LOL! Oh goodness, I laughed, and he seemed annoyed with me for not taking his concern seriously! He kept looking from me to the paper with a worried expression. I finally moved it, leaving it on the floor, but he hasn't touched it again today!

The summer do's are done!

Now I can hardly tell Sam and Jaz apart if I'm looking down at them. Their colors are so similar! When their coats are long, Sammy is like a puffball (he looks very fat because of the roundness of his winter fur) of silver and charcoal, while Jazi has flowing dark fur that hangs to the floor. Cut short, their colors near the skin are very similar. Jaz is just slightly darker. When I took them in I said I wanted their summer cuts, not shaved but only a half inch or so long. The groomer looked at Jazmyn and said "Even her?" Jazi's coat is beautiful and fairly easy to keep brushed. The fur is silky, a dark charcoal color with some gold here and there, and a lot of single strands of white mixed through most of the coat, giving a salt and pepper appearance. Frankly, I hated to have her cut down, but with the dark fur from nose to tail, she gets very hot and can't stand to stay in the sun. I want her to be comfortable.

I also hated to have Lolita cut down so short. It meant that most of her beautiful strawberry-blond color was going to disappear. And it did. Close to the skin, her strawberry colored areas are fawn, a very light tan, much like Ali was. Around her ears and tail you can still see some of the red. I was also dreading cutting off her topknot, because she was SO cute with the tousled mop that was there. The groomer left her with a little longer mat of hair there, and it does look good. It's not as wild as before, but it is a bit of "herself."

Max's fur is silky fine and tangles very easily. I hate trying to brush him because it is painful. Even when I get him de-tangled, he will have more knotted fur within a couple hours. So it was good to get him cut short, and he loves it! I think he knows he won't have to endure the tortuous brushing. Now that he is trimmed close to the skin, petting him is like petting a young puppy or if you felt the hide of a Weimerheimer, you know what I mean. It is so soft and I love to just reach over and feel the silkiness of his back. We are both happy with the result!

And my Joey. He loves his cut, too. He doesn't mind me brushing him, but he is very curly on his haunches, and it it hard to brush him because of it. I wonder if he has some poodle or something else with curly fur. Many Shis Tzu have very wavy fur and it may curl or flip up on the end, but I've never seen on quite like this. He looks 100% Shih Tzu except for that, so I don't know if it is a fluke or a mix of his blood with another breed. Anyway, he has been bouncing around as if it feels good to have the weight off his body. I may break down and buy some doggy sweaters or jackets for next winter and keep the coats of Joey and Max, at least, remain short. We'll see.

So there you have it. Pictures promised and delivered!

  6. Thanks, Pepper. I think they look good, too. Max was so funny! The funniest part is it was the same paper he'd played with 2 minutes earlier! But I'm sure he didn't understand that because it appeared to him to be alive. Silly, funny little guy!

  8. They are adorable.....there's no doubt about that.
We have a Pekingese, Sassy, that we keep groomed pretty short. Especially in the summer, it seems to help with her allergies. We never have let it grow out very long even though she has a beautiful coat.

  9. I never get enough of the puppy-goodness!!! I am always wrestling with gett Reilly cut too. He looks so cute but he IS a yorki-poo and the poo part if the devil to brush!

  10. Kim, I don't know that I've ever seen a Peke cut short, but I'm betting they look much like the Shih Tzu. The puppy cut is so perfect .... still have the glorious tails and ears, cute muzzles without the tangling of the body. Good balance! In the winter, thought, I let them grow. I can't stand it if they look cold!

Patti, you and me, too! I didn't know Reilly had poo in him! I thought he was just a Yorkie. OK, you do know what I'm talking about, then! Sam gets dredlocks and they are unbelievably easy to get out, but Joey's curls are kinks .... tough to get brushes through.

Thank you, sweetie! It's easy to be a good doggy momma. I love these guys silly.
