.
I just got back fro the vet's office. Again! Poor Jazi!
Earlier she was stretched out beside me on the couch, snoozing, and she let out a high pitched, weak wail. At first I thought she was dreaming because she didn't move. But then it happened a second time, a sound of fear or anguish or pain, and I saw that her eyes were open, and this time the other pups came running to check her out. She still wasn't moving, so I shoved them back to avoid her getting hurt.
I picked her up, and she was almost limp. I was terrified because I thought she was having a seizure, but having had two dogs before with epilepsy, I know about the terrible breath that accompanies and she did not have that. She just laid in my lap and looked pathetic, but didn't seem to be in pain. And her eyes were alert, so the likelihood of a seizure was decreased.
I watched her for a while, and she seemed generally OK. She wasn't showing pain, at least. She panted lightly for a few minutes, sneezed violently a few times and when she licked her lips, her tongue was very pale. I rolled her lips back and the gums were pallid, too. Not a good sign, but she seemed to out of whatever distress it was. Then she drifted off to sleep again.
I called the vet and they were alarmed at the pallid tongue and gums, too, so we drove in to Ruidoso. She checked out fine, particularly her heart, and the color was returning to her mouth. Then he suggested that he check her anal glands. What?? Well, he said it is not unusual for a dog to have pain if the glands were too full. And brother, were they full! Poor little girl! As soon as he was finished expressing them, she curled up on the exam table and looked just as comfortable as could be!
Good grief! If only they could talk!
BTW, her eye has completely healed, and when I told him what was in her eye, he said it is more common than he would like to find fox tail grass seed in eyes or ears. I gotta be sure that stuff is killed out.
.
Poor little Jazi. She needs a voice. I wish I knew what Sadie was thinking half the time.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this last month or so has not been her best moment. I hope this is it. Poor kid.
ReplyDeletemy dog simon sir poopalot needs his anal glands expressed occasionally/supposedly it is possible to do it at home but i have never been able to do it for him!
ReplyDeletei am glad she is feeling better.
Yeah, (M)ary,I've had dogs who needed it regularly and others never needed it. My late husband was pretty good at it, but I'm not. Not sure I care to these days, anyway!
ReplyDeleteMercy Miss Percy! Jazi must've really been uncomfortable. Good thing the vet was able to give her some relief!
ReplyDeleteSeamus, she really was. She has been sacked out all evening. What would we do without our vets???
ReplyDeleteI've said many times, I sure wish dogs could talk. Glad everything is ok now and Jazi is feeling much better.
ReplyDeletePoor Jazi. It sounds like you have a very smart vet because I would have never guessed it was her anal glands. So glad she is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI would also love to know what Sophie or the cats are thinking. Sometimes Sophie looks over at me with the weirdest look and I wonder what she is thinking. Then again, maybe I don't want to know. :)
I am glad she is feeling better . . .I cannot imagine what THAT would feel like.
ReplyDeleteI do often wonder what these guys think as well . . .maybe we DON'T want to know.
Daisy, thanks. I am, too. I hate being in the dark when they are sick or hurting.
ReplyDeleteCaroline, I wouldn't have thought of it either. I really like this vet. You know, I wish people doctors were as intuitive as vets are!
I know what you mean, because sometimes I get what seems to be looks to kill, and I wonder!
Beans, I'm so relieved! And not only can I not imagine it, either, but I don't think I want to imagine it!
Poor Jaz... she is just having a terrible time.
ReplyDeleteJust dropping in for a quick update. Poor Jazi! That reminds me i've GOT to get Reilly groomed and his glands expelled. I wish they could talk too.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that all is A-OK now. I would love to be able to talk with my dog.
ReplyDeletePepper, it really hasn't been her month, that's for sure. Let's hope this is it for a long time now.
ReplyDeletePatti, these guys already need another grooming, but I'm going to do this one myself. I can't afford 5 of them every time!
Man, it's been a long time since you've been here. Good to hear from you! Thanks from Jaz and me, too.
Give ms Jazi a hug from us. Poor baby luckly I have never had that problem with the dogs.
ReplyDeleteBobbie, I will do that. And yes, be glad you don't have such problems. It was pretty scary.
ReplyDeleteGlad that he was a smart vet, and she felt better, and it wasn't more serious than that !
ReplyDeleteAwwww the poor little bugger !!!!
ReplyDeleteSmart Mom
Good vet
Priceless
Hi, Annie!!! I feel so good with this vet and his care of my babies and myself!
ReplyDeleteRuth, that's clever! :D
