These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

A Good Evening with Friends

After several months without getting together, we had a pot luck dinner tonight at my house. It was a great deal of fun. I bought a couple London Broils, marinated one and put a dry rub on the other yesterday, then grilled them this evening. I also grilled some asparagus, one of my favorite things. Late this afternoon, I mixed up some dips, only to realize I didn't have chips, so I cut up some tortillas and made my own.

We also had a big dish of enchiladas, potato salad, shrimp, hummus and crackers, fresh fruit with chocolate dip, Parmesan potatoes. The most fun thing was that our "token" child who is now 16 brought food for the first time! He has a job at KFC and he worked today. This kid has been coming to our put lucks for 2 years, and he is usually the only kid there. It doesn't seem to bother him, as he gets along will with all the adults, has a delightful sense of humor, and doesn't seem to notice that he is any different from us. He called his stepmom and asked if he should bring something, and she said sure, to give him the sense of belonging and contributing. Bless his heart, he brought corn, baked beans, slaw, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy!! Hey, Caroline, I have left over mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC in my fridge!! Linda made a coconut pie for dessert, and it was yummy!

We had such a good time. We invited some new folks, and they added to our enjoyment. The evening was pleasantly cool, so we spent most of our time on the deck. As the sun was setting, the clouds in the East were absolutely gorgeous, and everyone hung out at the railing just enjoying the sight. The clouds were various shades of pink and just breathtaking. No, I didn't take a picture. I was absorbed in the sight as was everyone else.

I'm SO proud of my pups! They barked as each person or group arrived, but then they all calmed down and enjoyed being spoiled! Sam was the most reluctant, but even he allowed himself to be petted. Jazi charmed everyone, and Lola flirted her little heart out and made everyone laugh. This is the first time they've been around so many people, and they behaved far better than I expected, and it was a pleasure for me to see. Most of these folks had seen them at other times, and they were impressed with the progress, too.

I'm very tired. I didn't have a lot of work to do today, but having a dozen or so guests in tends to wear me out. I think I'm going to bed. MaƱana!!

  1. Sounds like a great time was had by all. Glad the rain stopped so your guests could enjoy the view from the deck. I bet the kids got spoiled with attention too. HAGD and relax for a change.

  2. Sounds like it was a great evening. And I LOVE that you have a 16 yo that comes to your potlucks. How cute that he brought some from KFC. Maybe one day I will live close enough that I can come to your potlucks.

  3. "No, I didn't take a picture. I was absorbed in the sight as was everyone else."

I can remember times too that I've had the opportunity to take a one-chance-in-a-lifetime photo and was so absorbed in the moment that I forgot I had a camera with me. Once when my son couldn't believe that I had descended a mountain ahead of him (he didn't know I'd taken a shuttle and his expression was absolutely priceless). Another time when I saw a funnel cloud in otherwise perfectly good weather. Both times I had a camera, but didn't think about it.

    Hasta manana.

(P.S. Not sure why, but I always have a hard time getting my comment accepted here. Gonna try again--third time's the charm, right?)

  4. Ruth, it was fun, and we all commented about how we've missed our get-togethers. I'm going to just kick back today with no plans for anything. I started out by sleeping till 8:30!! I almost never sleep that late!

Caroline, Garrett is a very sweet youngster. He is my new house-sitter. We've all commented recently about how delightful he is. When he first came to live with his dad, he was required to attend because they wanted to establish rules and limits right off the bat. Now, however, he has proven himself reliable, and has been given a choice about it. He chooses to spend these evenings with us. Quite a sweet young man. I look forward to the days when you will be able to attend these dinners, too! :) Hurry!

Dave, I used to get upset with myself for those moments, but I've come to realize that occasionally, we need to simply enjoy. And I do. Besides, somethings can never be recaptured quite like the natural eye.

I wonder what is the problem with your comments? There have been a few problems in the last few days, but it sounds as if you have the same problem repeatedly. Got me. Maybe your comments aren't accepted because you are completely unacceptable????

  9. Awww, sounds like you had a great time and great fellowship. I LOVE having company. Sadly, we don't get to have company that often anymore. Maybe one day we'll get back to hosting get togethers. It's always a lot of work...but so worth it.

    Miss ya bunches! Love ya!!
