These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Not home yet, but close

A short update .......

I've extended my visit by a day, so I won't be returning home till tomorrow, Tuesday. That's a good thing. I've enjoyed my visit very much, obviously. Reacquainting with old friends rocks. Getting to know someone you barely knew in high school, and finding out that you have much in common, that you like each other is even better.

I'm sure I'll be ready to go home by tomorrow. I'm getting a little tired. We've been on the go most of the time. I've been to Tucson just once before, when my son married my sweet daughter-in-law back in 1993, and since we were caught up in the wedding events, I didn't get to see much in the way of sights unless they were en route from the hotel to the church or to my son's house. So this has been fabulous.

Yesterday we went to the Sonoran Desert Museum. What an awesome place that is! I've always loved the desert. Unfortunately, when most people think of "a desert," they don't realize that it is not a dead place. OK, OK, some are, but most are wonderful, if you just look around. In this park they have brought together most of the elements of a huge area (the Sonoran Desert is huge; look up a map to see how far it reaches) into an area that is walkable so that you can experience much of the wildlife and plant life common around that expanse in one place. I'm always in awe of the saguaro cacti, and yesterday was no exception. I won't give you one of my famous "lectures" on the history and facts of the components of the desert, here, now, but perhaps soon. That means beware!

Today we plan to go to the Air Museum to give me a lesson on planes. Jim was a Navy fighter pilot in the Viet Nam era, and while I've been to several places to view planes, climb around in them and hear about them, it will be more meaningful to hear it from a friend's first-hand experience.

Earlier in my visit, the days and evenings have been filled with meetin his family and friends, sight-seeing around Tucson, visiting old missions (circa 1700's), sitting in a tavern and meeting some interesting people, and watching more football that I thought possible! I like football, but I can't hold a candle to this guy! When I'm home, I'll get back to more on all of this, including pictures. Be patient!

Bad news .... or good news, depending on how you look at it. My computer is fixed. (Good) It is nearly brand new.(Good) The keyboard was replaced (good), as was a significant cable running to the screen (good), the touch pad (good), several other little things, including the whole top around the keyboard which had a crack in it (good), and .... the hard drive!!! (Good and not so) They replaced everything they could find wrong (a package repair price), and I'm glad it is all new and ready for another hard-wheeling four years; however, it ended up costing me over twice what I planned (BAD!!!). Still, it was inexpensive considering what was done. It now really does have a new life for much less $$ than a replacement. I will have to spend several hours reloading the software and data when I get home. And yes, I backed up everything the night before I left! My momma didn't raise a dummy!

Well, that wasn't so short, was it? Ah, well, you guys know me! I can't say "hello" in less that 50 words! Talk to you soon from home!

  2. I know exactly what you mean about the desert! I grew up in and around the high desert of Cali, near Yucca Valley. There's just something about it, the smell, the sky at night, it's an amazing place! It seems people either love it or hate it though. I hope to go back one day for a trip down memory lane.
It sounds like you are having loads of fun. It's always nice to visit but even better to return home at the end of the visit! Glad to hear yo got your computer fixed. They are expensive little buggers, aren't they? Looking forward to seeing your pics.

  10. Wondering if "Old Tucson" is still there. I believe it was an amusement park built around an old studio. Then I heard it burned, but never heard whether it was re-built or anything. I was there about a dozen years ago.
