These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Look what I found today ....

I was on my way to work at the thrift shop, and as I pulled into town, this little sweetie was in the highway!!

I stopped, and she came right to me. I picked her up and walked up to the house the she was in front of, the only one near that has full time residents.  The door was open, I could hear a TV and there were lights on in the house. I held the dog so she could be seen through the screen, and I knocked. No answer, no sound in the house, so I knocked louder. No answer, so I pounded. No answer. OK, either it was not their dog or they weren't want to have the dog back. I took her to my truck and drove the four blocks to the thrift shop. She was delighted to be in the car with me, wanted to sit on my lap and her tail wagged non-stop. Cute little girl!

Now .... the dog had tags. Rabies from 2005 and 2006, and a village dog tag from 2006. The vet listed on the tags was not my own vet, but one that is very involved in animal safety. By this time I was thoroughly angry that someone has neglected an animal like that, allowing it to go without shots and wandering around, especially in the highway, although the speed limit at that point is just 35 mph. She was well fed and had on a flea collar, but she is neglected. The other women at the shop said that the dog is in the highway all the time! I couldn't believe it!

This cute girl sat in the window and watched traffic (as in the pic) or in my lap the whole time! She is such a lover!! If I didn't find her home, I would have brought her home overnight, and then I would look for a good home for her. She would make an excellent buddy for someone.

I placed a call to the vet who was not in today. I left a message for her on her cell phone, explaining the situation, and expressing a hope that she could help me identify the dog and get her home.

A few minutes later, the local Barney Fyfe came in the shop. One of the other women ran into him after leaving the shop and told him about the dog. He said he knew where she lived and would take her home. I protested saying I had a call in to the vet because the dog was not getting appropriate medical care and was roaming the highway on a regular basis. He said he was returning her to her home and walked out with her. There was nothing I could do.

Minutes later the vet returned my call. She knew the dog. She said the dog had been brought to her clinic multiple times, and the owners sometimes don't pick her up for two or three days after she has called them!!! This vet is a great humanitarian, taking in any stray animal and keeping it until the owner is found or adopting it out when owners do not come forward. She does this to prevent them going to the shelter. At this point, I was fuming. I told her that she could deny hearing what I said next if she wished, but if I find the dog out again, I'll find it another home! A loving home that would protect her! Know what the vet said?  "Good!" She also said that if she comes into her care again, she will not return her to the owners!

I talked to several friends this afternoon, and I found out that all of them, ALL OF THEM, have seen her in the highway, stopped and moved her into the yard or a couple have even put her in the house. They say the owners go to work, leave lights and TV on for the dog, a window open, and she jumps out!!! WTF??? All of them are going to be watching out for her. If they find her out, they will get hold of her, call me, and I'll take her till I can place her safely. But you didn't hear/read at this blog that I'm planning to be a dognapper. Jes' sayn'.

Close this window NOW, and forget you've ever been here. Jes' sayin'.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE PEOPLE WHO TREAT ANIMALS WITH SUCH DISREGARD!!!!!!

  3. OH my gosh....what a cutie!!! I think if you find her again you just need to take her to your home and keep her. I think she would get along with your babies.

    What an adorable face.

  4. I CAN'T HAVE SIX DOGS!!! But she is adorable, for sure. Honestly, such a sweet little thing. I can't believe anyone would risk her life like that.

  5. I think I clearly remember you saying, "I can't have 5 dogs", but now that you have 5 dogs your house is filled with so much love. Just imagine how much more love you would have if this sweetie was part of your family.

  7. OMG Lyn! You know that I am a Pug owner and Lover! I would take her! Pugs are such a sweet, fun, lovable and faithful breed. The poor thing deserves to be loved and spoiled! That just really gets my goat!!!!
My own vet said that when he finally retires, he is going to get a Pug because of their nature!
I am just fuming about this. It's to bad that I wasn't there Lyn, I would have just taken her and changed her identity!

  8. I agree with Diana...next time you find her we need to put her in the witness protection program and change her identity. I am sure we could find her a wig and she could be a poddle.

  9. Di, I'll tell ya what .... if I get my hands on her again, I'll meet ya at the "safe house" in KS (AKA Caroline's house) for the hand off! I'll wrap her up in a baby blanket and pass her off as an orphan baby with breathing problems I'm taking for medical attention, then Caroline can disguise her as a poodle for you to transport her back to IL. Sound like a deal? A little blogger-meet and witness protection transfer all in one!

    Caroline, got that?

  10. If Di weights in in favor of it, we'll play it by ear. Her drive would be something like 6-8 hr., and mine would be 12hr (!!!!). Perhaps it could happen, who knows??

  11. Hey I'm in! I just took my little Pug to the vet today for a nail trim and heartworm chew. I know how to spoil em' baby!
I don't know how to get to KS., but I've got a map and plenty of dog food. And it's the good kind from the vet, not the cheap crap.
But ya'll better keep this on the down low, you never know who's out there reading this.

  12. OK, Di, here’s how you get to KS .... put on the red shoes, close your eyes and click your heels three times while saying, “There’s no dog like a pug, there’s no dog like a pug, there’s no place like a pug.” When you open your eyes, the get in the car and follow the map!
