These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Interesting light

This evening I was sitting the the deck talking to a friend on the phone when I saw a weird and beautiful phenomenon. When you look at these two pictures, it looks like there is a glare on my camera lens, but no .... it is a light (lights?) somewhere between my house and the Capitans. I have no explanation for this other than the obvious fact that it was at sunset, and this is refracted from the pink sunset behind me.

The oddest thing is that the light looks as if someone sliced the bottom off. It is straight across the bottom and doesn't reach the ground! It's not because the horizon cuts it off, because there isn't a straight line horizon around here. I have no idea!

Nuff said. Lookee here .....

Isn't that odd?

  1. It looks like rain reflecting the light of the sunset. I've seen rain that never reached the ground, but never that color.

  2. Yes, no question it is refracted light which I get all the time here, but that line just puzzles me. Very odd!

  4. I agree- it is rain catching the sunset. We used to see it all the time in Flagstaff. BUT- I have never seen a better picture of the phenomenon.
    Beautiful!

  6. Moni, it was a new experience for me, to be sure, but one I'd love to have again.

JBO, in Flagstaff, did you see the flat cutoff on the bottom of the refraction? That's what puzzles me. I'm sure the rain was reaching the ground; why was the light not? It was gorgeous, no matter!

  7. Scotty, er, I mean, Jen, it does look like the whole village is being transported, doesn't it? ;D

  8. Lovely and interesting pictures. I think perhaps the sunlight was blocked by a low hill and so failed to reach the falling rain. I don't know if I have explained that very well. I mean, it may have something to do with the way the hills stand in relation to the sun.

  9. You are right. That is most unusual.

  10. Jenny, I understand what you're saying, but I'm having trouble with the idea that there is enough flat horizontal terrain to produce that. Where I live is mountainous, and in the direction from which the refraction was coming, it is particularly so. It almost HAS to be that, but my head isn't wrapping around the idea!

    Linda, it certainly is!

  15. Cathy, I hope he has an explanation for it. I'm still quite curious.

  16. Very pretty. On my second trip to CO there were the neatest clouds right over Leadville...it was like 3 perfect circle clouds right over the city. It was awesome, but also a little weird.

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
