These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Taking a break, and you have to suffer ....

I need a break. So that's a good excuse to sit down and write a post, right?

This morning when I woke, the sun was just coming up. It was brilliant red and was less than 1/2 over the horizon. By the time I got my camera and stepped onto the deck, it was already up. This doesn't show it, but it was still red, red, red. Just gorgeous.

I've been cleaning house today. I usually rest on Saturday and clean on Sunday. If I don't rest on Saturday, Sunday is a lost cause. If I go do something on Saturday, sometimes, my house gets only the least buff up on Sunday, because that's all I can manage. I'm glad I cleaned well in preparation for my potluck, because right after that is when I got sick. Cleaning today hasn't been a big deal.

A while ago I cleaned the finch cage thoroughly and then hung it outside on the deck so the birds can get some fresh air. They are loving it, chirping and hopping all over the cage. The funny thing is the hummingbirds. They fly up close to the cage and hover, looking in the cage at the finches. Then they zip away. My finches look at them, and it seems they don't know what to think of the "free" birds out there!  After a while, they now seem more relaxed when the country cousins come zooming in. I love watching all of them.

Got a new house sitter. My old one was scheduled to be here for next weekend, but he has a new job and has to go for some training. I called a neighbor, the girl that I took to the store the other day, and asked if she could fill in, and she was delighted.  She came down a while ago and got the instructions, learned where everything was and how to operate the heating/cooling, etc. The dogs like her, and I think it will be fine.

Now I need to start thinking about what clothes to take with me. I always take too much. I'm really going to try to avoid that this time. I've gotten better in recent years, so I'm hoping I'll be reasonably light in the suitcase this time. We'll see. Anyway, I want to try to have it all picked out by tomorrow evening so I can begin putting things in the suitcase. It would be so nice .... and a novel experience .... to be able to leave Friday morning roughly on time and without anxiety about whether I've taken all I need, etc. I'm a traveling worry-wort, I guess.

Want one more look at it? OK, slightly different focus, here 'tis ....

Bon nuit, mes amis!

UPDATE:  Just to clarify, I'm going to my 50th high school class reunion this weekend. Guess I thought I'd mentioned it, and after looking back, I don't see where I did. So .... does that help?

  2. you are off on a journey? Guess I missed that, or more likely, read about it and promptly forgot. I also pack less these days and find I do not need as much in the way of clothes. I still have problems with shoes though.

    1. It's just a little trip, about 6 hours away, to my 50th High School class reunion.

And I'm with you on the shoes! Never seems I have enough/right ones, no matter how well I plan!

  3. From my friend, LC at www.retirementdaze.com, who still can't post a comment for whatever reason:

Enjoyed the visit with the sunrise, the feathered friends and the trip
prep ponderings. I, too, pack too much. The one time I didn't was a
trip to Italy, and I wished I had been a little more thorough about
toiletries and makeup that I packed. It turned out that there was a
definite language barrier to finding several products comparable to
what I regularly use and that I forgot to pack.

    1. I would agree, out of country is a much more serious problem. When I was in Mexico last summer, it wasn't so bad, because they have everything we do, I think.

  4. I would love to just sit and watch the free and in the cage birds react to each other. Loved your photos today. Safe travels.

    1. I've watched/listened to the finches chirping and singing to the wild birds, the regular, larger ones. That is sweet to hear. This is the first time I've seen the hummers get into it like this, though. It was very sweet!

  5. Did I miss something? I don't remember you saying that you were going somewhere. It's possible that I may have missed a post I suppose. Whatever and wherever you go, I hope it's a good trip.
That second photo was really great Lyn, just beautiful!
    Love Di ♥

      Thanks, Di!

  7. Yes, pack light. That's a good lesson for traveling anywhere IMO. Beautiful sunrise. I'll bet sunsets there are even prettier? Speaking of pets, I had my picture taken at the grave of Greyfriar's Bobby in Edinburgh. Have you heard of his story? Very sad and touching.

Have fun at your 50th. My mother-in-law went to her 50th re-union and had a great time.

    1. The sunsets and sunrises are comparable, but where I live, I don't get the full sunset. I live on the eastern slope of one range, so the sunset is blocked from my direct view. However I face another range of mountains, and the light of the sunset is reflected on them in the most gorgeous pastels you can imagine. Since I have the glorious sunrises, I'm glad to have the lovely pastels in the evening, it is relaxing.

I don't know the story of Greyfriar's Bobby, but I'll look it up.

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
