These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Finding Me

I borrowed something from the blog of Little House on Wheels. OK, I stole it. I didn’t tell her I was using it, but I will bet that she doesn’t come hunting me down with a wet noodle.

Here is what I “acquired”:

Finding Her Here

I am becoming the woman I've wanted,
grey at the temples,
soft body, delighted,
cracked up by life,
with a laugh that's known bitter
but, past it, got better,
knows she's a survivor-
that whatever comes,
she can outlast it.
I am becoming a deep weathered basket.

I am becoming the woman I've longed for,
the motherly lover
with arms strong and tender,
the growing up daughter
who blushed surprises.
I am becoming full moons and sunrises.

I find her becoming,
this woman I've wanted,
who knows she'll encompass,
who knows she's sufficient,
knows where she's going
and travels with passion.
Who remembers she's precious,
but knows she's not scarce-
who knows she is plenty,
plenty to share.

Last night I was getting ready to post this, and I wrote a big, looooonnnnng post about it. Then I reread what I’d written, thought a little more, and I scrapped that. All I’m going to say is this ... this poem struck me squarely between the eyes, because it speaks to me about who I am becoming. Many of you have followed my journey for quite a long time, and you know I’ve come to recognize who I am, who I was and who I have become, with more joy in my heart than I ever thought I’d know.

For a long time “I” was covered up with life’s clutter, and I lost myself. Oh, of course I wasn’t totally lost, but I certainly didn’t have ... or perhaps just didn’t take ... time with me, for me, or about me.

Now, I’m glad I am me, grey hair, soft body, and happily aging!

  1. Beautiful. I think I'd be honored to have something this inspirational "acquired" from me. :) If that makes any sense at all...

  3. That was a beautiful poem, Lynilu, and if that is how you feel about yourself now, quite a testament to who you have become and are still becoming !

  4. Patti - There is something freeing about these moments, isn't there?

Annie - With each "have become" there is another "are becoming." What if one really "became"? I like "becoming."

  5. What a WONDERFUL poem!!! We are all growing and changing and, as I get older, I hope I'm becoming the kind of woman I've always wanted to be! Being happy with ourselves is so important, and something I try and teach to my girls!

  6. Hi Lynilu - I just found you from Burg's blog. I'm so glad I came to see what your blog was about. This poem is beautiful and choked me up. There's nothing more attractive than a woman who is happy with herself. Not always an easy thing.

  7. Cheryl - Isn't it excellent?! As I age I realize that I am ever more like my mother, something I didn't necessarily plan for, but something I appreciate more with each year. Your daughters are listening. Whether you .... or they ... know it or not. Smiles on all 4 of you.

Jenster - Well, thanks for the visit and the nice words. It is the best thing in the world when a woman appreciates herself, and not only is it not always easy, but it is sometimes just downright tough! I think that is why I'm so glad to be at the place of really knowing myself and knowing that who I am is alright. This is what makes life beautiful.

  12. I am glad you are you are well.

Oh, and I really don't like this posting once a week or so. You got us all hooked on you and then you disappear for days. :)

  13. Dawn - I'm glad this struck a note for you, too. It is neat how a single poem touches so many at different levels. Hmmm. Do ya think there might be some divine intervention in that? :)

Sassy - I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's one of the coolest poems I've read, for sure.

Pepper - And I'm so glad you posted it at your blog. Amazing how things happen ... just as they are supposed to.

Jenn - Thanks, but, gosh, girl! I can't take credit for the poem. I'm glad it found a place in your life, too.

Caroline - Hey, I'm busy finding me!!! :)

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
