These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Aren't Surprises Fun?

Yesterday evening Da Boss had a little cookout for the employees at the Gallery. He was celebrating, as much as anything else, the liberation of his barbie from his house. Why liberated? Because he is the throes of divorce and his estranged wife is living there. He doesn't go to the house unless she is away for a day or more, and the following weekend provided him the opportunity to seize it. No, she was not holding it hostage, but he just doesn't go up when she's home because it upsets her too much. Anyway, this isn't about that.

So last night we had steaks, lobster, and baked potatoes, as well as some salads brought by coworkers, and I furnished homemade ice cream since I found my ice cream freezer not long ago. One person brought a homemade apple pie and another one, cream filling of some sort (I didn't taste that one). My, was everything good! I didn't over eat, just to comfort levels. I had a couple glasses of wine with it and thoroughly enjoyed a great evening with good food and good company.

At the end of the evening, he presented us each with a piece of jewelry in appreciation of our work, our choice of earrings, a pendant or a pin in the shape of a bear. The bear is special because it is the trademark of the Gallery and was designed by one of the artists. I chose the pendant. When I got home I slid it on a necklace of strands of tiny silver tubes , called silver rain or liquid silver, and it looks very nice. I may try other chains, etc., but for now here is what it looks like .....

I tried to get a close up, but the glare was awful, even without the flash.

I know I'll enjoy wearing the pendant. I'm a jewelry hound, if you don't already know that, and almost any addition to my collection is treasured. Could the evening have ended any better? I don't think so.

And now, I need to go and finish up some tasks before Gail returns today. Her room is essentially ready, but I have to finish sorting and downsizing in the living room. I Would like to be able to walk through it without zig-zagging or hurting my toes!

Good day, everyone! Yep ........

Life is beautiful!!!

  2. I forget what the bear is a symbol of in Native American lore - isn't it patience? Anyway this is a truly gorgeous piece, silver jewelry is my favorite.

  3. Patti - Thanks, and I hope the bear continues to bring you what you need. BTW, it's not a chain, but multiple strands of teeny silver tubes. It is sometimes referred to as "silver heishi," also. Heishi is a name for the stone or shell beads that are made by taking a sting of the stones and using a slapping, dragging motion against a large, flat and smooth rock until they are shaped smoothly. There is heishi of all sizes, and the smaller each bead is, the more valuable, because so many are broken in the making process. These days, I'm rather sure that even the Native American buy the beads already drilled and shaped. :( Not nearly as picturesque, but certainly cheaper. And obviously, silver "heishi" is made by slapping silver nuggets on the big rock! It just resembles heishi.

Sandra - In the Zuni tribe the Bear is "Strength, Introspection, spiritual journey though life. The white bear is medicine." And a general meaning for the bear in the Southwest is: "Bears - Protective animal of the West. Bears are one of the most important fetishes throughout the Southwest. They all have medicinal powers, but white bears are believed to have the most healing ability. Generally bears will be carved with little or no tails." As to the composition of jewelry, I just like it all. Both gold and silver have specific attributes that are appealing. I must admit, my most stunning jewelry is silver.

Annie - Gail was delighted to have "her own room"! It was nice last night that we didn't have to pull out the sofa bed, and to not have to tiptoe around this morning. We are both winning!!

  13. No silly I would never offend you on purpose. I was just being silly cuz Borat really did buy a bear for protection from Jews....and well you mentioned bears are protective in lore....oh never mind...but don't be offended, just a failed joke.
