These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

:) and :(

A few weeks ago while I was traveling, I bought the audio book, The Other Boleyn Girl. I enjoyed it immensely. After I listened to it, Gail borrowed it. She liked it, too. Since the move of same is in town, we went tonight to see it. Blech. NOTHING like the book!! The movie was good, the acting was excellent, the story was so different that we just kept looking at each other and shrugging! See the movie, but then read or listen to the book. It is much better, and from what I can determine, far more accurate. We stopped for a little dinner after the movie, then headed home.

The winds were awful today, but by this evening it has lessened this evening. I'm glad for that, but we are supposed to have more of same tomorrow. Yuck. I flipped on the TV to watch the weather to see how bad it might be tomorrow, and you won't believe what I have to tell you. Oh, mercy. The Trigo wildfire, near Albuquerque has totally blown up today. It was 80% contained this morning, then during the extreme winds (up to at least 60MPH) we had today, it "exploded," as it was reported, and now is burning our of control, 0% contained tonight! And because of the current situation, it is now declared a "Type 1" fire, meaning that as of tomorrow, wildfire fighting crews will be coming to NM from all over the US to try to once again control the fires. They said 250 homes have been evacuated today.

This beautiful glow is not a sunset. It is the glow of the fire against the smoke of same!!

Crap. Sorry, but I can't believe this. So .... crap.

  1. I'm staying till Friday in Huachuca City because of the winds. The cooler temps the next two days will be nice but the wind is horrible.

Hate to see the wildfire status..heard there is one by Grand Canyon where I'm going for the next two weeks. Sigh...I think we've only begun with the fires this summer. Scary...and sad...

  2. Froggi, the wind this year is un-freakin-believable. I'm sure you are getting about the same thing where you are.

Hmmm. Check everything carefully before you move to GC or any area that is having even small problems. Just as happened with the Trigo today, it is quick and easy to get out of hand. Be safe!

  3. BTW, I think we all need to be doing rain dances, praying to the rain gods, holding up the need for rain, whatever is appropriate!

  4. Your photos are incredible, though, obviously wild fires are anything but. Hope they are able to get them back under control quickly.

  5. Gah, I am SO sad to hear about these storms. I am wishing for lots of rain and far less wind....

  6. Lynilu,
The pictures are always amazing of fire, but the smoke and the soot and the damage is so horrible - ick, choke, ick, and what a tragedy.... The poor animals/wildlife and the plants all destroyed - let alone when it comes to homes and people... The wind causes such havoc, and how I wish there would be rain instead in cases like this...

The Other Boleyn Girl - Phillipa Gregory's fiction books are interesting. The next one is going to be about Mary Queen of Scots when she was imprisoned. But yeah, the movie you saw SUCKED - very historically inaccurate and that was disappointing.

  7. I loved the Other Boleyn Sister, but read it quite awhile before seeing the movie so I wasn't so aware of all the changes. The costume and scenic design were awesome.

  8. Most of the time the book IS better than the movie.

    The fires are scary.

  9. Marcia, oops. I should have clarified that the fire photos are not my own, but from the news stations. I'm, fortunately, too far away to take my own. The forest photos from Tuesday *are* mine. Thanks for visiting!

    Julie, ohhhh, me, too!

Annie, I'm just sad over the fires. Oh, yes, to have rain is the wish, hope, prayer of all of us, I'm sure.

TOBG - I am very interested in history, and what I've read indicated that Gregory is pretty accurate in her writing. The movie just skipped over or altered facts in a way that skewed what happened, IMO. As I said, the movie was actually well done (scenery, effects, acting, etc.), but the story was messed up badly.

Maria, you're right about those details, and it was well-done in many ways. But the story ... the perceived time frame was not accurate, births of some children were just ignored, and some events I thought important and helped to build the picture of the chaos went unmentioned. I guess it might have been a 4 hour film if my missing details were added. :D

Daisy Mae, that is an absolute truth! That is why we read, isn't it? And thank goodness for books, whether printed or recorded!

    Very scary fires. :'(

  10. Wildfires just make me so sad. So much destruction of life - wildlife, plantlife, and sometimes human life. I just hate it!

  11. Patti, exactly. Fortunately, this one has not taken a human life, but it is bad. It was still out of control at noon today. :(

  14. Your photographs are powerful, especially the last one. Nature can be cruel and yet beautiful at the same time it seems.

As for "The Other Boleyn Girl" I too loved the book (and have since gone on to read a number of Philippa Gregory books) and I'm glad I didn't see the film. I have this "thing" about the film never being as good or as true to the book, or I don't like the actors who portray the characters as they weren't how I visualized them. So hearing what you and Gail thought -- I won't even be renting it on DVD! Now watch, with my luck that will be the film shown when we fly to California on Wednesday!!

  15. Sherry, I'm looking forward to reading another of her books, too. I was actually OK with the actor/role match, the costuming was marvelous, the acing was good, etc. It was just the story tweaking that got to me.

Well, if they show that on the plane, I'll be looking forward to your opinion!! :D

  16. Lyn, you took some AMAZING photos of that fire. I will be so happy when summer is here. Hopefully it will be nice and wet.
