These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Txt Msg

My almost twelve year old granddaughter inherited her mother's old phone when mom got a new one. She is limited on who she can call, but since we are both on Verizon, any call to me is free, so she was delighted to put my number in her phone when I was there in March. Now, I hadn't heard from her but once when she called to wish me Happy Birthday in April. That's about what I expected, just an occasional call on special occasion or when something really special happens in her life.

Well, yesterday, I got a text message from her. Nothing special. Just how are you? how is the weather and how are the dogs? I thought it over for a little bit, got on line and check what txt msg would add to my bill. While Caroline and I were heading to our destination the other day, she sent me a short message to let me know that she had picked up Joey. Or rather she told me "The eagle has landed"!! LOL!

Now .... I don't use txt msg. But it is handy for short messages like that, and since young missy has discovered it ..... AND since I can have 250 messages, excuse me, msgs a month for $5, I decided to go ahead. A good thing is that I could make it retroactive to 6/18, so it picked up both Kylee's msg and Caroline's msg, saving me 40¢ right off the top. So I have, sighhh, actually entered the world of txt msg!!

I responded to Kylee's msg, and now she is on a roll!! Eight messages this AM!! Funny girl! She was even saying she couldn't get on line and check the email I sent her because her mom is on the computer AND on the phone! I about cracked up! I sent back that her mom should be saying that about her, and she replied that her mom just has to be talking with her friends 24/7! OMG!!! What a hoot she is!!! Now her phone is charging. I have a reprieve!

Now let's see .... eight msgs a day X 30 days a month = 240. YIKES!! I gotta tell her to cut down or I can't answer her. And meanwhile, none of you can txt msg me!!!!!

LOL! I know it will be less fascinating as time goes on and the novelty wears off. But right now, it is just too cute and funny!

If you haven't seen it, scroll down a couple, no, three posts and see one of the videos with my thundering herd when they weren't quite thundering!

  1. I'm always having text message conversations with my kids. So sad.

  2. Jenster, it makes sense, or I would expect someone with teenagers to text with them, but I'm (ahem) a bit older and haven't had teens in 19 years!!

It is fun that she included me like that! Does this make me a "slammin' grammy"??? LOL!!!

  3. Right now I have a phone that is not good for sending TXT messages because there is no keyboard. When I am eligible for a new phone in Dec I am getting one of those cool phones that are also a palm pilot.

Oh and welcome to the world of TXT messaging. One you go TXT you don't go back....:)

  4. And I know that you didn't mean me when you said we couldn't TXT message you...

  5. Shucks! I was in mid txt when I read that we can't text ya... ): LOL. I learned something interesting from my boys the other day. They can download ringtones that are just a solid tone. They can pick a tone that can't be heard by adults over different ages. We experimented, picking the different frequencies, and I was saddened by how true it is. Time marches on... I can see now how students can text each other in class without getting caught (without using the vibrate mode, which can be heard by those nearby).

  6. Congratulations on broadening your horizons yet again! There are no limits in your life, Lynilu, and I think that's fantastic.

    Hugs,

  7. Caroline, my phone really isn't text messaging friendly, either, but I probably won't be sending enough to worry about. We'll see!

And to you and S3, OK, you guys can text to me! LOL!!

S3, oh my goodness! Really!? Well, in some ways, I don't doubt it. I 'spose each generation has their "secrets" from older ones, right?

BTW, you made the "frowny face" backward. Why is that? Someone might think you are left handed!!

    giggle!

  8. Hey, Betty, you sneaked in there while I was writing!

Some people take the term "broad" to be a slam, but let's face it, most women are more willing to broaden their horizons than men are!! I think that definition make us the stronger, more open gender!! YAY!! :D Yes, I think it is great, too!! Thanks, Betty!

    Huge to you, also. :)

  11. Excuses.
    1. The frowny face could be because I lean to the right.... ;)
    2. Everyone is born right handed... only the best can overcome it.
    3. I'm not used to frowning. Life is too short to watse much time frowning. :) (:

  13. Mom check out what you really qualify for with your texting! We have 500 free texts, but unlimited in texting! Which means text away! We are in baby! ILY TL

  14. TL, OK, I will. I just looked, and I can't find the little window that had the 250 for $5! I'm pretty sure it included IN calling, and I didn't think about that. K would be IN, also! I'll look more later.

  16. M, LOL! Well, I wasn't sure I wanted to get it because I knew I wouldn't actually use it very much, so I checked. Whatever method works, right??? ;D

  17. Kids absolutely LIVE for text messaging!

  18. Sherry, oh, I know that!! I watched a girl about 14 or 15 in the parking lot of the grocery a few days ago, and I kinda wanted to say something to her. She and her gramma were loading groceries into the car, and she would put in 1 or 2, then her thumbs would fly on the keyboard for a minute, then a couple more bags and more acrobatic thumbs! Meanwhile, Gramma is loading bag after bag with an exasperated look on her face!

  19. Dang it I WAS going to text message you! I love texting!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
