Well, it is time to face the inevitable. I've got to name this critter! I can't keep calling him "Hey You" without long term consequences on his psyche. Well, you're right .... I don't call him Hey You, but several equivalents thereof. He needs to have a name to begin responding to during training. I've called him too many different things, and I know to him it is just "Wah, wah, wah," when I talk. Oh, wait, he does know "no," but he needs something especially his own in the human vernacular.
So here's the deal. It is down to a couple names. Are you ready?
drum roll .....

Wilson. (Shut up, Caroline!!!)
I don't know why, but those seems to fit him somehow. Sam is just simple and direct, no-nonsense. Wilson is sturdy, a bit quirky, and seems to have a sense of humor to go with it. And besides, if I call him Wilson, Caroline has to back off .... or at least start contemplating a name for the next animal that enters my life!! Either way, it might be quiet for a while. ;D
I promise within 24 hours, I'll have decided. I'm going to try them both on him and see what seems to be best. Stay tuned!!
These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................
Not that you asked...but I like Sam. :)
ReplyDeleteCasey,hee, hee, you're right, I didn't, but we all know that's not a prerequisite, don't we?
ReplyDeleteI'm alternating between calling him the two names to see how he responds to each.
Oh my gosh....you totally made my day with this post. And yes I will come up with another name for your next critter. :)
ReplyDeleteI like Wilson, as long as he doesn't turn into a Willy. Because thats just another name for a penis, right? (I hope my friend Willy doesn't find this comment.)
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest Jackson, but I like Wilson.
Wilson!
ReplyDeleteWilson!
Wilson!
My comment didnt make the short list - dang it!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Lynilu,
ReplyDeleteI like "Sam Wilson" Everyone desreves a middle name :)
Caroline, well, I thought I'd try! You are i.n.c.o.r.r.i.g.i.b.l.e!
ReplyDeleteJulie, weeeelllll, I was thinking of "Willy the Kid," a play on "Billy the Kid," but I'll avoid that, OK? :D
Ruth, OK, OK, OK!!!!!! But what is this about a short list???
Annie, :D, that's cute!!
I'm with Casey on this one. He looks like a Sam to me.
ReplyDeleteI left a comment earlier but didnt see it hence the joke lol
ReplyDeleteRuth
My vote.....Sam. However, I do like Sam Wilson. Sadie's middle name is Ruth...the name she came to me with.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, this is getting no easier!! I really do like both names!
ReplyDeleteRuth, oh, OK!!
MJ, ooooookkkkkkk, but you know Caroline will get you for not supporting Wilson!! Jus' sayin'!!!
Even though this is VERY hard for me....I have to admit that he does look like a Sam...and I like Sam Wilson.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I am totally laughing at Julie's comment. Since I am a lesbian I guess I never realized that Willy was another name for...um....it.
ReplyDeleteCaroline, I, uh, you ......
ReplyDelete***THUNK*** (sound of Lynilu falling over in a dead faint)
After all that harassment about Wilson, *now* you capitulate ? ? ? ? I even mentioned Sam on the phone, and you just ignored it!
I swear. You're gonna make an old woman of me. Oh, wait, I'm already one. Geez, I just can't win!!!
LOL! OK, OK. I give up!!
Willy .... what can I say?? You still have your naiveté in tact, that's for sure! Did you not take Dennis' class at KU on Human Sexuality? We spent a whole 3 hour class writing every term we could think of for human sexual body parts on every black board in the huge room, as an exercise in desensitization. gah. I didn't know there were that many names for them, and I truly didn't care after that. I guess the desensitization exercise worked!
WILSON!!!!
ReplyDeleteI took a class like that too! I remember, it was the first day and the reason we had to do it was to get over the embarrassment and start talking about sex things. The names for Penis got out of hand and I remember laughing very hard when some guy through out "heat seeking moisture missle."
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I like Sam Wilson too. It has a nice ring and makes for many more nicknames. Raleigh the cat's real name is "Countess Raleigh Licktenstein Clawsenheimer."
I agree-I like Sam Wilson!!
ReplyDeleteMy SIL's dog is named Willie-short for Wilomena or something like that.
Cute names...I like Sammy Wilson!! ;)
ReplyDeleteActually he does look like a Wilson but he's got a Yosemite Sam kinda face!!!
Whatever you call him it will be "love"!!
I guess then I shouldn't mention that maybe he looks like a Charlie also......
ReplyDeleteI just realized he could be a Charlie Wilson.....
ReplyDeleteTraci, got it!
ReplyDeleteJulie, the names of all of them were out of control for my class, yet I really did learn a lot. I was 43 or 44 at the time, and OH MY, what I didn't know!!
OK, now that you've shared your cat's full name, I'll 'fess up about Ali and China. She is "Princess Ama Wei China Doll" (say it out loud), and he is "Emperor Ali Zan D'Ewok" (my former name was Alexander, [ali-zan-d] and the Ewok is obvious).
Yeah, this dog is gonna have a simple name!!
Beans, that's cute!
Sherry, I think he looks like a Wilson, too, but he seems to be responding to Sam better. We'll see! Maybe I should just call him "Love." But then the neighbors might hear me calling him and think my boyfriend (?!?) has run away from me into the woods!!
Caroline, Hmmm?? Why would I want to name him after some politician from Texas?
:D
I was gona vote for Mikey.
ReplyDeleteYour 24 hours is almost up.....
ReplyDeleteMan, awwww, Mikey is cute!!
ReplyDeleteCaroline, don't push me, DON'T PUSH ME!!!
