These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

I am not over 60 yet (56), but I sure remember very similiar childhood activities.
ReplyDeleteIt was a different world, wasn't it, Daisy?
ReplyDeletei will be 42 on friday. but i am going to check out the post anyway. i am not that far from 60 and i would like to know what to expect.
ReplyDeletetime before tv? oh i would love to go back to that time. not that i don't appreciate a good show but really the boob tube will suck your brains out if you let it. i remember playing outside when i was a kid in the 70's but only because my mother forced outside and away from the tv. she was wise to do so because it helped our imaginations to play games.
ReplyDeleteM, yeah, i agree with you, TV isn't all bad, but it can become so deeply a part of our lives that we are essentially addicted. Yes, it does such brains!
ReplyDeleteGood for your mom for running you out of the house. The sad thing about life today is that it isn't safe to let kids play around the neighborhood like we used to. I think it makes children almost naturally navigate toward tv, computers, and electronic game systems like Wii. I'm not opposed to them, but kids are far too saturated with things that don't challenge them to think individually, to imagine, to dream.
I just read your friend's blog..what a trip down memory lane that was. I remember listening to all the great radio shows..e.g. Pepper Youngs Family, The Shadow, Innersanctum, Lone Ranger. and when I was a teenager...Hockey Night in Canada. and many many more. Lux Theatre too. And these shows really date me. Playing outside wasn't an option, it was compulsive lol I forget the other soaps, but I'm sure someone will remember them. Nice memories, and who knew what was to come. TV, internet, digital cameras and BLOGGING( which I havent done yet) Hagd Lyn

Ruth, good memories, aren't they? Yes. And I love your statement: "Playing outside wasn't an option, i Maddt was compulsive". Oh, yes, absolutely mandatory! "Get outside and get some fresh air!!!" "Go outside and work off that energy!!" LOL!!
ReplyDeleteNow you know i'm barely past 40 but i'll go read anyway!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be 42 next Friday. We came home and watched Scooby Doo or Little House. My brother and I would bet on how many minutes into the show Pa was gonna cry. The minute his lip quivered, we'd be rolling with laughter. Not quite as fun as what Eve described, but infinitely more fun than kids today coming home and switching on their Wii or Xbox.
ReplyDeleteMQ, :D You're a good sport. For a kid!!!
ReplyDeleteSandra, just about anything beats Wii and Xbox, IMHO. You're around the age of my kids, and we watched a lot of those things at our house, too. I don't remember the kids betting on Pa's quivering lip, though!! That's hysterical!
