I can hardly watch TV these days. Why? Because of the dogs. Really.
Last night I clicked on a video I'd received. It turned out to be the one I posted here a week or two ago, the one with the guy singing the puppies to sleep. When it began playing and the puppies were yipping, Jazi came unglued! I felt so awful! She spent several minutes looking for her babies, then she laid down next to me, sighed really big and became inert. It was about 30 minutes before she seemed to be back to herself, and that time was breaking my heart. I loved her and petted her, but she was just so sad.
This morning I was watching a movie which had dogs on a ranch. When they began barking, all my dogs scattered around the living room, looking for those other dogs, finally running to the door. They stood there barking until I got their attention and got them to settle down.
I've noticed that my new kids aren't used to TV. A knock on a door send them running to our door. A barking dog or crying child or a sharp voice jerks their heads up and they stare at the TV in bewilderment. I guess I could use earphones. But no, they need to get used to it.
LOL! Just this minute a commericial was on and a man was whistling in it. Sammy jumped up and ran to the door! Then he looked around and saw me, and cocked his head like, "How'd you do that?" I guess he thought it was me whistling outside.
Yeah, we are still adjusting here. Looks like it's gonna be a while!
These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................
What's a country cousin?
ReplyDeleteMy dog never reacts to the TV, but he's a piece of work in the car! For the life of me I can't figure out why he becomes so agitated in the car. Usually I can figure out where he's coming from, but this is baffling.....
Hugs,
Betty
Betty, remember the story of City Mouse and his cousin Country Mouse? "Country cousin" means someone who hasn't been exposed to city-stuff, like in this case, TV.
ReplyDeleteAli and China don't pay attention to TV. They used to sometime jump when there was a loud noise, like an explosion, but that was about all. Now, they are both so deaf that nothing on TV or elsewhere seems to bother them. Your dog in the car sounds like Ali used to be during a thunderstorm!
I didn't realize that Country Mouse and City Mouse were cousins! I thought they were just friends...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, my dog is reacting to the car like my last dog did to a thunderstorm- completely freaked out! When he decides to look out the car window, he thinks he has to bark at everything he sees, so it's nonstop chaos until he cowers on the floor again. I guess he's a Country Cousin in the car.
Hugs,
Betty
Hmmm. Betty, you may be right about that. However, it served the purpose for my explanation.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for animals that have fears like that. Can you imagine being scared of something and around people who don't understand you or you them? :(
my dog goes nuts when he hears dogs barking on tv. in fact if you have a video on your site, i have to turn the sound down so Simon (Sir Poopalot) doesn't hear.
ReplyDeleteM(ary), LOL! Sorry that I disturb Simon with my yippy, yappy videos!!
