These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Pictures and Posting

Yeah, I've been busy.

First was the hiccup about the pictures. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do about that. Blogger says I've used all my space for pictures. I figured out that part of the problem is those Sunday Funnies, and I decided that I could leave those up just a couple weeks, especially since they aren't historically important or anything like that.

Another option is to kill my photography blog, The Way I See It . . .. Part of me hates to do that, but I haven't posted since May. Very few people view it, so I just lost interest. It would be little loss while gaining a great deal of space for me for photos here.

And I can go to an outside source for photo storage, and there are several good ones. I'm working my way through those to figure out which might work best. Each has pros and cons. It is a good solution, but I hate giving up the fun of having the pictures directly embedded in the posts where people can click on them and enlarge them for view details. So far none allows my viewers that feature. But I'm still looking.

Of course, the most simple answer is for me to purchase additional space. It's not terribly expensive, but I wonder about doing that. Somehow that just rankles badly with me. So I'm still wading through the options, and figure it out eventually.

Then there is the other thing. First, a bit of history ....

In the spring of 2006, Caroline kept talking to me about blogging. For almost a year I had written long newsy emails that went to a huge group of family and friends. It began with me keeping everyone informed about my husband's health. After he passed away, it became an accounting of my travels and experiences. Caroline thought it was a good idea for me to begin blogging and allowing people to come to the blog rather than doing a mass emailing. It made sense. Well, after she talked and talked about it, it made sense. She really had to talk hard. But in May I began blogging. The funny/sad thing is that precious few of those to whom I sent the newsletter have followed here to see what is going on. The good thing is that I have lots of new friends in my life now. ALL OF YOU!!!

Soooo. I've been blogging regularly for two and a half years, and I can thank or blame Caroline. I'll blame her, because I think I'm addicted. And you know what she's done now? I'm telling you, she is just a baaaaaaad influence on me. Really. She couldn't leave well enough alone with the blogging. Now, as of Thanksgiving Eve, I'm .... snivel, sob .... also a facebook addict. WHEN WILL IT END???? When will she quit leading me down the wrong paths???? When will she stop giving me excuses for doing nothing?????

I no longer own my life. The Internet owns it .... and me.

  1. Hey Lyn,

I strongly recommend that you start using an outside source for hosting images. Blogger's hosting is not the best for images. Their program, picasa, is limiting and bulky.

There are many forms of webhosting and most of them allow for hotlinking. This means that the image has a unique url. This means that with a tiny bit of html, you can post pictures inline without using the blogger uploader.

I have used a lot of different image hosting sites, and my recommendation is www.photobucket.com. It allows you have both private and public photo albums, with not picture limit, and relatively large photo sizes (as big as you need for web posting). It also provides you the direct link under the image.
All you need to do is grab the image url and in blogger, use the 'add image from web' function.

This is what my public photobucket looks like, http://photobucket.com/aka_fatty

    hope this helps xx

  5. I would suggest Flickr for your pictures. It's $24/year and you can upload as many pictures as you want.

As for Facebook...I love that you are as addicted as I am. Yes we may be addicted, but we are having a lot of fun.

  7. Man has Facebook but I don't. I do however have MySpace. Maybe I will have to set myself up with Facebook.

  8. Caroline, I looked into flickr, but I'd like to find a service without a charge. I tried Photobucket for one album, and I'm going to try a couple others.

    Yeah, it is fun!

MJ, tsk tsk. You should know that Caroline's powers of evil are very, very strong! But sure, I understand. Just look. Nothing else, just look.

    hee hee hee!

Daisy, so far I like it, and a significant lot of my family and friends are on there. Check it out. If you don't like it you can delete the account. But I'll bet you don't!

  10. I am thankful that you started blogging as well. And I so admire your blogging stamina!!! I lie in bed a lot and dream up posts, but 9 out of 10 times, I'm just too tired to go downstairs to my computer and follow through.

  11. Catherine, thanks. Don't forget that I'm retired and can spend more time at this than you. If I were raising 4 kids and holding down a full time job while writing and publishing books, i probably wouldn't find time to blog at all! I think you're doing a fabulous job!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
