These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

The Weekend Begins with a Surprise!

This morning when I looked out front, the birds were lined up on my railing like octogenarians at Furrs Cafeteria. I knew I couldn't open the door without spooking them, so I tried to snap a shot through the window. Not bad, but even sticking my camera in the window scared several off.

They had already stomped down the snow on the railing. When I first looked, there were about 15 of them sitting there. And I realized the feeders were empty! About five inches of snow, and empty feeders! What kind of host am I?

I wish I had looked at the deck and taken pictures of it before I let the dogs out. There was snow everywhere, and the birds had walked all over the deck. I had birdie footprints everywhere! I'm guessing they were looking for spilled birdseed which is common. Unfortunately, I let the dogs go with me to feed the birds, and immediately, they had tracked over the bird prints within a couple minutes. Never the less, the wild birds are happily chowing down now. In fact, most of the feeders are nearly half-full, just 5 hours later.

Out back the trees were gorgeous, but the sun was already melting the snow. The temperature was just 16°, but the snow was liquefying and falling off the trees so soon. Shows how powerful the sun really is!

I am spending the day inside. I had planned to go in town and just hang out, visiting friends, etc., but I've decided to stay home. It's not a matter of being able to get out, but a matter of I don't wanna! It's cold! At 1:00 the temp is just 23°, so why would I actually want to go out more than I have to?

A while ago I turned on the TV and the satellite was just cycling through the settings. I didn't think much about it for a minute, then it dawned on me that I have no signal! But not because of the obvious reasons. I knew almost immediately what was wrong. My dish was full of snow. I had to go out and sweep last night's snowfall out of it, and voilĂ !! Pictures on the screen again! Amazing! And that will hopefully be the last of my outside time for today!

Have a good weekend!

  2. Brrrr. Stay inside with the dogs - no good reason to go out in that stuff. (Unless ofcourse to fatten the birds - they are so grateful!)
