These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Start the Clock, it's 2009!

Last night was fun. The pot luck gang got together for appetizers and drinks. We thought we would gather at 6:00 and be just an hour or hour and a half, then move on to other fun events. We had such a good time together sharing the most awesome (of course!!) hors d'oeuvre in the world! I'm telling you, we are an awesome bunch of cooks! So we lingered and lingered until nearly 10:00. Why not midnight? Because by this time our tummies were full, the wine was beginning to take effect, and I just wanted to get home to bed! I think everyone was about the same.

While we were together we laughed more than I can remember in a long time! I don't know why, but I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed jovality of the evening. Isn't it cool how sometimes things just fit? There is often no observable reason for those times, but you just don't care.

When I got home I snuggled with the pups for a while, then we crawled into bed, and I was out like a light. Yes, it was definitely before midnight! I figured out a few years ago that the new year comes whether I'm awake or not, so I do whatever my body seems to tell me it needs. And guess what? I was right, once again! I woke this morning, and it was 2009!

I woke to little paws patting on my face! Sam and Max apparently thought it was time for me to wake up! One on each side of me, wet little noses just inches from my own, and their paws poking at my cheeks, my nose and my ears! It was a little after 8:00, so I'm guessing they were getting bored. They have the dog door to go outside, so it wasn't that; they didn't seem to be terribly hungry; they just wanted attention!

I fixed a big breakfast for myself and fed the dogs and birds. Then I started cooking. I made black-eyed peas with ham (frozen, left-over from Thanksgiving) in honor of my Southern heritage (Mom's family came from Virginia and West Virginia) and posole for the traditional dish from New Mexico that is my heart of hearts. Earlier I had a bowl of black-eyed peas and ham, and now I'm gulping down a marvelous bowl of posole with lime juice and cabbage, and a hot tortilla on the side! Oh yum, oh yum, oh yum!!!

While that cooked all day long, I have been watching the Monk marathon on USA Channel and cuddled with the kids in between throwing toys for them. Pretty good way to start the year .... good food, good company (they don't talk back!), and fun tv.

Bring it on, 2009!!!!!!!!

It's funny, today my sister-in-law from Tennessee kept saying how we HAD to have black eyed peas. I'd never heard of that before.

  3. Annie, it was very sweet. I have to admit, though, that I wasn't quite ready for that, and I ducked my head under the covers for 5 minutes or so!

Cheryl, oh my! You Yankees have a lot to learn!!! LOL!

  5. I love Monk. I get woke around 3 or 4 with purring and either a tongue up my nose or one of the little monsters biting my nose or the toes. I didnt get my sauerkraut and pork with the antibiotic I dont think my stomach could take it . Only 8 more days of feeling blah from the antibiotic.

  6. Wishing you a wonderful 2009.
We also start the new year with black-eyed peas & ham. We have a New Year's eve party with friends and family, set off fireworks at midnight to welcome the New Year and then we come back in and eat the black-eyed peas and ham, the first meal of the New Year. It's become a tradition.
    Happy New Year,
    Kim

  8. Red, how the heck did I skip over you? That's strange! Sauerkraut and pork is your tradition, huh? I think it is cool to have family traditions! Sorry you're so ill, however.

  9. Puppies are so cute... did you know baby hamsters are called "pups" as well... when we're born we're the size of baked beans and blind... but soon we're pinging about like anybody's business and driving our mother potty! (just like human toddlers...)

    ;->...

have a great one in 2009! excellent blog here: found you by hopping two and fro from friends' to friends-of-friends' and way out to the outer reaches of the bloggiverse...

(weird how you find people you know commenting when you do this... ever heard of that theory on which the Will Smith film is based: 6 Degrees of Separation...??)

  10. Gledwood, thanks about the puppies! They are my life, in case you didn't guess! We had hamsters (and gerbils and guinea pigs), also, when my kids were young, and they are so much fun to watch. Enjoy the blog-hopping! I do that occasionally, and it it interesting, indeed, what you find doing that!

  11. Sounds like a great start/end. My family went to a big youth party while I stayed home with my sick Sookie. It was kind of a strange night. Oh, I did visit with some neighbors for a little bit and got a chicken enchilada and cranberry martini out of that deal! And then a young couple came over and hung out with me and Sookie until about 11:00. Then Katie came home so I wouldn't be all alone at midnight. Well, that and she's sick, too.

Glad to say everybody is on the mend! :o)
