These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

An Uncomfortable Start to the Day

Grooooaaaannnnnn. I woke this morning .... actually in the middle of the night .... with a horrible pain in my back. It seemed to be right beside the spine, and it was one of those sharp, stabbing pains that takes your breath away and makes it painful to take a deep breath. And it was radiating down my right arm, making it impossible to find a comfortable position for sleep.

So at 3:30 I found the vibrator with the long handle that does deep massage and went to work on it. I discovered that the more intense areas of pain in the musculature structure were actually in the scapula. I worked on it enough to get some relief, put on one of those medicated patched for muscle aches, and I was able to sleep. I didn't sleep very well, however, as it was still hurting enough to keep my nerves on edge. This morning I took Tylenol and used the "seed bag" (the kind you heat in the microwave) for an hour or so, then got into the shower. In the shower, I was able to move my arm freely and the pain completely subsided. I wish I could have stayed there all day!! I'm much better, but I can still feel a pull in that area.

I need to get into town and buy some of the patches that put heat in a sore muscle. Those work great, but the only one I have is for the back or hip area, and it will be uncomfortable to try to sleep with that wrapped around my shoulder and upper torso. Besides, it lasts just 8 hours. That might be enough, but I'm not risking another middle of the night siege without backup "troops"!!!

I'm waiting to hear from the guy at Big O, hoping the tire makes it in in time to be mounted today. We may have more snow tomorrow, and it would be nice to have it done. I don't plan to go anywhere, but I like being prepared.

Looks like I will have a take-it-easy day, except for the trip to Big O (I hope!) and Walgreens or WalMart for patches. I have three Blockbuster videos and several of my own that need re-viewing, so I'll be set!

Later!!

  1. Oh, I am sorry that you are having back pain. There is nothing worse then back pain and not being able to sleep. Hot baths always help when I have back pain.

    Take it easy this weekend....

  4. Caroline, I'm a lot better, but there is residual muscle knotting, so you betcha I'm taking it easy this weekend!

Dawn, I agree, those are two of the worst pains in the world. I live with almost constant pain with fibromyalgia, but fortunately it is usually a low grade pain that I've learned to ignore most of the time. I refuse to let it control me!

Red, I thought about taking a flexoril, too, but I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to drive in to get the tires done!! I'm better, thanks, and I hope you are, too.

  5. I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. After three weeks of back pain, I hope you find relief soon. The heating pad was my best friend during those weeks.

  6. Yep, MJ, I'll bet you can identify with my angst! I have a heating pad somewhere, but I don't remember where I put it! Besides, the heating pad doesn't go everywhere I go and these stick ons do!

  10. I'm glad you are feeling better. On your suggestion, I might buy some of those heating things for Victor, who has a hurt shoulder and hip.

  11. I just noticed the 3 quotes on your main page. My favorite is the 2nd one.

  12. Renaissance Woman, thank you. I will be resting a lot. I don't have much choice!

Julie, thanks, I am better, but this morning I'm realizing I'm not out of the woods yet. Still hurting! BTW, I bought some of the "store brand" and I'm not thrilled. I thought I'd save a couple bucks, but I suggest you buy ThermaCare brand; they provide better heat, IMO. What I bought is just OK, barely.

Caroline, glad you noticed. I cleaned up the side bar quite a lot, and will do more soon.

  13. I noticed them earlier today too. I like the third one. Actually I have a book of quotes, and one that I particularly like is: no one can take advantage of you without your permission.....Eleanor Roosevelt

  15. Ruth, I'm laughing about how little we read in the sidebars of posts, myself included! I like your quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, too. She gave us many wonderful quotes, didn't she?

I am taking it easy, for sure.

  17. Naughty Mary!! LOL

I'm glad you are feeling a little bit better and that you have movies to watch while you recuperate! Take it easy and I hope you're sleeping better.

  18. Oh, (M)ary, you're such a bad, bad girl!!! LOL! When I wrote that, I wondered if people would jump to conclusions!!

Jen, yes, I've been watching movie after movie all day long! If I sleep tonight, I think I will be back to normal (sorta) by tomorrow. Thanks!

  21. Well Lynilu, I am so sorry to hear of your backpain. I do hope you get it under control as I know how much of a damper it can put on everyday living...

BUT...you know that over in my neck of the woods, we have some dirty little minds...and I really couldn't help but giggle when I noticed that the words "Vibrator" and "Big O" were located within the same post. Oh boy would I enjoy having to explain that one to Momo!

  22. MM-MM, thanks, I am better if not quite 100% yet.

LOL! I knew the vibrator was going to bring, uhmm, issues, no matter how I worded it, but I didn't connect the Big O with it!! Apparently, neither did anyone else!! Too funny!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
