These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Final note of the day

.
A short note ....

While I was out working today I was doing a quiet task, and one of my resident deer walked about 6 feet from me before she realized I was there. When she saw me, she didn't dart off. She looked at me, froze, then turned slowly and walked away in that strange pace where they take a step, pause with two feet up, take another step, pause, etc. She kept her head where she could see me, but didn't run away.

I was amazed and absolutely spellbound! I wish I'd had the camera but I enjoyed the moment nonetheless!

Since I have no close up doe pictures, Here are a couple cuties of a more familiar critter.

I was sitting on the deck earlier, and Jazi, Lola and Sam were in the swing with me. This is the first time Lola has wanted to get up there. We sat for around 30 minutes, and I got up to come inside. Fifteen or so minutes later, Jaz and Sam were inside with me, and I went to the deck for something, and here is what I found.

At first I thought maybe she was afraid to get down, although that made no sense, because this girl has not fear of jumping up or down. But when I offered to take her down, she backed away from me. She continued to sit there for several more minutes, and I peeked out the door at her, and she was simply enjoying the view from a new perch!

She is such a happy little girl.

  1. She is just too cute! Sitting there like she owns that swing! And about the deer - they are special creatures. I know exactly what you mean about their strange pace. I love watching them. They sometimes come into our yard too, but I've yet to be ready with a camera. --Cheryl

  2. What a precious baby. Do your dogs realize how lucky they are???

  3. Cheryl, she thinks she owns everything and everyone! But in a sweet way, fortunately. I've gotten a lot of really good shots of deer, but never that close. I'd love to be able to actually be that close, just once, with the camera in hand.

Caroline, she is, isn't she? Ya know, I think they do know they have it made with me. They all show me such love. :)

  7. Awesome encounter!!! Our "Buckwheat" (2yo buck) acts much the same way. He has continued eating while I've sat on the back porch, but only as long as I'm still.

  8. Caroline, yeah, I'm gonna have to keep them locked up!!

Seamus, I'm actually able to move around if I move slowly and I'm not too close. Their tolerance seems to be about 20 ft., if I'm on the same level with them. But if I'm on the deck, they seem to understand that there is another obstacle (stairs) for me, and I've been able to come within about 8 linear feet which translates into about 20 ft. if I were to try to reach them. I think they are very smart!

And little missy? She is cuddled up next to me at this moment. Too sweet, but I'm betting that within 5 min. she will be tearing off the tackle one of her brothers! :D
