Reading funnies today, and I got a laugh out of these.This is really the evolution of woman, isn't it?
I haven't worn heels in a hundred years, other than some little barely-heels about 1.5 to 2 inches in height, and only about a half-dozen times. It started with arthritis and fibromyalgia in my feet making it a miserable practice, and then deciding that comfortable was way better than glamor. It would be nice to have both, but comfort is just essential, IMO. I wore 4-5 inch heels all the time, until I was in my 30s and owned probably 40 pairs when I was 20 or 21. That's what we did back then. Oh, and we "dressed," too. I don't think I wore pants to school, ever. Maybe I've forgotten, but I don't think so. When we "went to town" (went shopping to most of you), we usually wore skirts and heels. With hose. Even the grocery store warranted at least slacks and a sweater with penny loafers.
One of my stepgrandsons, 17 years old at the time, commented "Why do both my grandmas (his bio grandma & me) always dress up?" Allan explained that it is what a lady does." I was headed out the door to go shopping and I wore slacks, a blouse or sweater, and a jacket that matched with loafers.
I admit that I sometimes run to the store in sweatpants or something equally casual, but only on those times when I am in the middle of a task and need something to complete it. I usually wear at least jeans and a nice shirt or sweater. I don't think I "dress up," but I try to look fairly nice when I leave the house. I'm very comfortable in sweatpants, and I love wearing them, but I think they are really unattractive on most people. I'd hate to run into the future Mr. Right looking like that!
I dress much more casually than I did 50-60 years ago, and I've had periods since then when I "dressed down" in the ensuing years. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I like to go to places, functions, where people still dress with some pride, and I'm not talking about formal events.
HAAAA ha ha ha!! With modern fashions, I understand how this could happen!!
I have a couple belts almost as wide as some of the skirts and shorts I've seen! I don't mean to sound like a prude, because I did my share of that super short stuff in the 70s, but I'm very sure that I never wore shorts in which both my butt cheeks and my butt crack both showed! That's a bit much IMO! I'm tired of seeing butt cracks on women or men.
I could live in this! Can you imagine how much fun it would be??
What's your dream home? Where is it located? How big? What furnishings?
It's slightly overcast here today with occasional brief, light showers. I'm feeling very lazy, drowsy. Yes, I probably will take a nap. Later I have to go into Ruidoso to buy dog food, so perhaps I will snuggle down with The Kids right now and snooze before getting ready to go. They are all curled up beside me on the couch, catching a few winks as I write, anyway. What? Oh, yes, of course. Rest assured, I'll slip on some slacks and a shirt, not sweats. :)
My last job I was able to dress casual every day, so it has been hard for me getting used to dressing up every day. Now I have to think about what I am going to wear. Actually, I guess maybe some of the thinking of what I am going to wear will go away now that I have a washer/dryer. I don't have to worry about what I am going to wear based on when I go do laundry. Yay.
ReplyDeleteThe weather is really nice here today...well, I am probably the only one that thinks that...it's rainy and only 59 degrees. I am loving it.
My dream house...S and I often times daydream about what we would do if we won the lottery and I always say that I would build a log cabin on a lake in Northern Minnesota.
Caroline, I dressed casually in my last job in KC, too, since I was in people's homes and didn't want to "expose' them by dressing up so neighbor's knew "the social worker" was over there! At the art gallery here, I dressed up more, although coworkers didn't always. I thought it made a better impression on the public. I'm really glad you have the washer and dryer. I hated living without one for just a couple months when I moved in here!

It was weird for me going into the lawyers office in sweats but in my case I had no choice (big white cast). I dream home I am not sure but would like it somewhere it doesnt snow all the time. Its warm and humid out
ReplyDeleteYup, scrubs for me. :) I street dress maybe a couple of times a week if I'm running on time and care at all. But with jeans and I'm going out...heels, baby. I am in Texas, after all. :)
ReplyDeleteKathi, I didn't mean that jeans don't have a place. They certainly do, and I wear them often, especially with boots. And working where you do, street dress would be formal and out of place, I suspect. I do get tired of seeing people dressed as if they are going for a workout at the gym or camping, however.
ReplyDeleteFashion is not my thing. I am a natural fibers kind of gal--all cotton for me. Not really a girly, girl.

Oh, I'm all natural fibers, too, MJ, but but natural fibers doesn't mean not looking less that my best, either.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when reading your post. I haven't worn heels in years. I'm into comfort these days too. But you are right; you never know who you might bump into at a store or when you go out. Best to look at least a nice casual. But I go out looking dumpy or frazzled sometimes if I'm in the middle of doing something like painting or yard work and then have to run to the store. But we can't all dress up and have full make-up on all the time! --Cheryl
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I agree, even casual can look nice, and when I'm in the middle of a project, I'm not about to clean up to go for tools or supplies.
