These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Updated. AGAIN!

This has been haircut week at our house. It all kicked off on Tuesday when I got a haircut. I was wa-a-a-a-a-ay overdue. I got a haircut back in February just before the trip to Florida. When I returned, there was a message on my answering machine from my stylist saying that she had to quit working .... right now. She has nerve damage in her shoulders from the years of working with her arms raised, and she was at high risk of paralysis. That did it. She was done.

Since that time, I'd been meaning to find a new stylist, but I think of it at 10:00 at night or on Sunday. My hair was almost to my shoulders. It looked OK most of the time, but when the wind got hold of it, it was a mess. So I finally made an appointment with a woman who did my hair for a few months in the past. She was OK, not great, but I decided I had to do something.

The cut turned out alright. Actually it is good. I feel SO good having it short again! I was even considering keeping it long, but (1) I don't want the trouble of doing the necessary styling of long hair every day, and (2) women my age just don't look right with long hair. Well, unless they wear it up, and I especially don't want that!

After my cut, I realized that The Kids needed to have their summer cuts, too. It is getting warm, and I've noticed Sammy, Jazi and Lola panting more than usual recently. So I gave cuts to Jazi and Lola on Thursday, Sammy and Max yesterday, and Joey this morning. Joey is the hardest and I need more time on him; he has an incredible undercoat that requires pass after pass after pass with the clippers. They all look so nice, and they seem comfortable.

Lola (the only one who was on her feet at this moment I chose to take pictures)

And, although it isn't a very good hair day ....

Here's Da Mama.

We all feel much better!

PS - By "popular demand," here is the before.

When it was wet, the back reached well past my collar. I'm glad it's gone!

PPS - Alright, alright! Caroline doesn't remember my long hair pictures, so here are a couple, but remember these are hardly a fair comparison, because I was 17 or 18 in the first, and around half my current age in the second, around 33 or 34:

Age 17 or 18

Age 33 or 34, and a little hard to see with the dark background. When it was wet or I pulled a strand to straighten it, it reached my waist in the back.

  1. Everybody looks great! I only wish you had posted a "before" picture of yourself with longer hair. Do you have any?

    Hugs,
    Betty

  5. All of you look beautiful with your new summer hair cuts. You actually look good with longer hair too, but I totally understand why you would want an easier cut for summer.

I need to take Daisy in, I did a little around her eyes, but the last time I tried to do it myself, it came out so bad. Poor little girl, she deserves a good cute this time, she is so sweet. Right now she looks like a lamb!! Your post reminded me that it is time to call.

  6. Everyone looks beautiful (and handsome). I know what you mean about keepint it short. ONce in a Blue Moon, I think I want to let mine grow, but then the insanity passes.

BTW, I went back and edited my Memorial Day post to add women. Thanks for the heads up.

  7. I don't think I have ever seen you with long hair...I second the "post a before picture".

Everyone does look great with their new summer cuts.

  8. Thanks, ladies! We all feel gorgeous, too!

Cheryl, a couple of mine were looking like lambs, too. Same was beginning to get dreadlocks!! That poodle part of him does it, and it is cute! They are very soft dreadlocks, easy to brush out.

Pam, I guess I'm at a time in my life that I have better things to spend time on than my hair! And your welcome. :)

  9. Caroline, you actually have seen pictures of me with long hair. Remember the big portraits over the fireplace in KC? And I *did* post a "before." It is the one in the red t-shirt, taken in Denver a few days ago. I'll do a couple really long hair pix, just for you! ;D

Thanks, we like our summer cuts!

  12. Well I really like you Lyn but it appears that you have NATURALLY CURLY hair. And I don't like those people! Oh I'm just jealous! My husband is one of THOSE people too and I really do love him!
I love the short hair and you are right it feels so good! No fuss no muss! The doggy cuts came out very nice. They look sooo cute!

  13. Awwww. Don't hate me because I'm curly!! The funny think, Di, is that when I was in my teens, super-straight hair was in .... juice cans for rollers and ironed hair were popular, and neither was enough to make mu hair "acceptable"!! Finally, in my late 20s I came to appreciate my hair, and I have since.

  14. I had to come back to tell you Lyn that my friend that just came to visit always had very, very curly hair. She used to make me iron it, with a real iron!! Thank God I never burned it! Now she just lets it curl!
    Love Di ♥

  15. Thank goodness for the ceramic hair irons we have now! On days when there is a lock at doesn't fit like it should with the rest of my "do," I use it to tame the stray. Much easier than the way we ironed it "back in the old days"!!
