someone to scratch my back
someone meeting me at the airport
someone to thread my needle when I can't
someone to brainstorm with
someone to take care of me when I’m sick
holding hands
folding sheets together
someone to say “It’ll be OK,” or “We’ll get through this.”
a shoulder for my head
a head on my shoulder
a dance partner
someone in the empty seat at the table
someone to tell me my slip is showing
someone to wash the dishes after I cook
hearing “I missed you”
waiting for someone to come home
someone who gets me
These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

That's touching and heartbreaking at the same time. Thinking about you...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly. It's not really sad, but I do miss some things about being "a couple." Check out my new motto on FB!!
ReplyDeleteYou still wear a slip? Oh my. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on several of the others. Haven't had a good back scratch in over 15 years...
Yep. I identify... I miss everything that Alex can't do.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine. I would be so lost without my hubby. :(
ReplyDeleteLOL, Judy! On occasion when the skirt I'm wearing is too gauzy. I actually thought of that when I saw a woman with a couple inches showing, and I slipped over to her to let her know. She responded that her hubby should have told her. Well, yah!
ReplyDeleteNick, exactly! My pups are my everything, but they have no opposable thumbs! They know when I'm sad or sick, but they can't pat me and say "Now, now."
RET, yes, you would. Enjoy it.
To all - Those who know me "up close and personal" know that I'm fiercely independent. I'd make a terrible hermit, however, because I do miss the intimate contact and understanding of a long time mate. I could make do with a close buddy, but I miss the little stuff.
Just because you have "someone" doesn't mean you have all of those things. I wish for some of them too!
ReplyDeleteOf course you do. Those are the most basic human needs. Very few have them, whether they are with someone or not.
ReplyDeleteWhen I spoke to a recent widow the other day, she said: "what I really miss is a cuddle, not sex, not someone around all the time, not someone to organise me, just a cuddle now and then. There is nobody to hold any more".
Merikay, I know, I know.
ReplyDeleteFriko, that lady summed it up very well.
Man, I hardly do any of that. Now I feel bad. Oh wait. The empty seat at the table. I'm there. And maybe the back-scratching once in a while.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing, finding somebody who's going to do all that.
Well said!
ReplyDeleteDave, then perhaps you should add a nicety or two to your repetoire! No, I suspect no one does all those things all the time, but those are what I occasionally see or cross my mind, leading to the wishing. Finding someone with whom I'm comfortable and would do a few of those would be thrilling!
ReplyDeleteLC, thanks!
It's can so hard to find people that you feel truly at home with. You're taking the right attitude, though.
