These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Gee wilikers weather

I took this picture a few days ago. It is the Sierra Blanca or White Mountain Range. This is out my passenger side window, and I'm about to turn left to go to Capitan.

This morning I was in Capitan and was on my way to the office, so I was on the road, just out of the picture, heading toward those mountains. About three or four miles up the road from this point, I decided to take pictures to show you what was going on in that view today.

This would be what I could see today:

No, that's not fog. Or snow. Or rain. Not anything relatively normal. It is dust and sand. Yes, honest it is! The reason it looks white is probably because there is a huge amount of the White Sands from about 50 miles away in the air!

Winds were blowing here this morning at a sustained 55 mph, with gusts to 74 mph!

I know it is hardly believable, but those mountains in the first photo are up ahead .... somewhere! In the next  shot, you can see the outline of one of the closer mountains, just barely. Just beyond that is a huge mountain, but it doesn't show at all!

A little better shot (below) of the hill as I got closer. I'm telling you, it was a brutal morning! One person at work  mentioned a taste in her mouth, and after some thinking we realized it was probably from the gypsum in the sand! Whew!

Thankfully tomorrow is going to be less windy.  Tonight it has calmed down pretty well. Thursday and Friday are predicted to be windy again, but I don't know how bad.

Tonight I'm reading about snow in the area of Seattle and 70 mph winds with thunder and lightning in Kansas, not far from Wichita. Holy toledo! Weird stuff going around right now!

So what's the weather in your neck of the woods?

  1. The weather sure has been strange this year. I'm on the Texas Gulf Coast and we have fog and rain, which I guess is typical for being on the water. This is my first winter visiting in this area.

  3. I guess those would be sand storms eh Lyn? Weird. I do believe we are getting our spring weather now. Harrisburg Il. was hit by a tornado last night. I think they said something about K.C. too but I just got up and haven't heard it all yet. I think it was mostly far southern Il. Our low was 62 last night. Just really early and strange. Love Di ♥

  4. Our weather has been partly sunny, partly cloudy and rain today. We are going to get the front end of those horrible storms that have killed at least one person as it crosses the middle-states. Hope the finishes on the cars are not too dull after such a storm.

  5. Sand! Doesn't that do a number on your cars there? Or maybe it just shines them up. Today we have rain and relatively mild temperatures, near 50 degrees. But some areas in the midwest are getting tornadoes, I hear.

  6. We got over a foot of snow Monday night, then it just stayed cold yesterday. Today was quite nice. Our son called and said that the day you got all that sand, they closed the base (Holloman) due to the dangerous sand conditions. Crazy!

    1. Cyndi, I saw your snow! And I'd rather have your snow than dust and wind. When I said that about sand from the White Sands, I wasn't kidding. A regular dust/sand storm is brown or tan. This was all white. Very crazy!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
