These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Odd weekend

Yesterday was a strange day for me. I was very tired. I got precious little done in cleaning the house, then I took a nap and woke only after nearly 4 hours! I don't usually nap that long. I woke so late that I didn't have time to get ready and fix a dish for a potluck I was going to last night. I just couldn't make myself move. Then I was back in bed about 9:00, and was asleep by 10:00 and slept past 7:00 this morning. All I can say is that  a job,a wildfire evacuation, a wreck, training last weekend for Healing Touch, and physical therapy three times a week is more than I can handle.

I sorta made up the lost housework today, however. I didn't get to a couple things I wanted to, but I did manage to get the house clean, mow the lawn and water it, and trimmed two of the dogs. I guess that is enough! Lola and Joey really needed to be "lightened up" for summer. Their coats are very thick, so if they have any length at all, the undercoat gets matted very easily, and  they are miserable. I can't seem to keep them brushed. Their coats are just different from the other three and a good close haircut is the best thing for them. They were both SO happy when we were done!

I got the truck ready to go into the shop tomorrow. I've removed all the necessary items from the cab and got the big black box out of the bed. (big black box = pickup bed box that holds emergency items, compressor for the tires, some miscellaneous tools, the huge net that covers cargo, a tarp, tow ropes, etc.) In the morning I'll drop off the truck, wait for the rental car to pick me up, go to physical therapy, and hopefully be at the office by noon.  That doesn't sound like it should take all morning, but I'm betting it does.

One of my neighbors called to check on me yesterday. She does that, and I do her, also. Somehow I'd forgotten to tell her about the wreck, so she was surprised to hear about it. I check on her and sometimes run her on errands, because she is disabled, having crushed one leg in a really bad accident years ago. She has had hip and knee replacement, but has had many problems with rejection and infection. Hopefully she will be able to have good replacements one of these days. Till then, she is wheelchair bound.

As we talked, her teenage daughter offered to do anything for me if I needed help. How sweet is that? So this afternoon, I called her and she helped me get the heavy storage box down from the bed of the truck. She will help me return it when the car is fixed.

The estimate on the repairs was almost $2500. I couldn't believe it. And what surprised me even more is that it will take 3-4 days! It doesn't look as if it would be that involved.

But I guess, since the tailgate and bumper are both being replaced and the back of the bed straightened a little .... I donno.

A bit ago I discovered that part of the electricity was off, the part to the stove and the wall plugs. The breaker had flipped, but I am not sure why. I can't remember have a heavy load of usage. I started to make some hummingbird nectar, and the electric starter wasn't working on the stove. Then I noticed my battery charger wasn't working. I had some AA batteries recharging.  It took a few minutes before I connected the dots and knew I needed to check the breaker. I felt silly when I realized what the problem was.

Speaking of hummingbirds .... those little buggers are eating me out of house and home! I'm making about 1.5 gallons of nectar every day! I'm going to buy another 20 pound bag of sugar tomorrow. And I need to replace a feeder. When I washed them this evening, one was cracked. If I'm down by even one feeder, there will be a hummingbird riot on my deck, I believe.

Well, friends, I need to get some rest. Work begins again tomorrow, and all that other stuff isn't gonna help. Talk to ya again soon.

  1. First Lyn I am sorry for not stopping by sooner. I try to remember to check your blog regularly but since it doesn't highlight in my reader when you post, I sometimes forget!
Which brings me to my next comment. I found your post a bit ironic since I've been sleeping on and off for two days. Also didn't get anything accomplished! So today I woke at 4:00a.m. (Not by choice mind you!) and have been catching up ever since. I'm just sitting down to take a little break. Something told me to check on you.
That teenager sounds wonderful! I wish mine were so cooperative, maybe I wouldn't be so worn out. I suppose I just spoiled my kid too much. Anyway it was awfully nice of her to help you.
You know you and I are alike in that we pretty much have to do everything ourselves. Most of the time I don't mind but sure could use a break here and there!
I'm glad to see you've posted. Oh and we haven't had too many Hummingbirds this year. I don't know if it's because of the drought or the heat, take your pick. I'd leave too if I could!! Take care of yourself. Love Di ♥

  2. Oh, Di, don't apologize. I know it's hard to remember. I'm actually thinking about opening the blog up again. I think things have settled out.

As for the sleeping, I've talked to several people who have had difficulty with sleeping recently. By that I mean, problems not sleeping when we should and then sleeping when we shouldn't. Not sure what it is, but I'll be glad when it "normalizes" again.
