These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Courage Quotes

I have a list of quotes about Courage. If one of these tugs at you, take it and make it your own.

First two are from Sherry's blog:

Courage is not freedom from fear. It is being afraid and going on. (Most references say this is "anonymous"; one attributes it to "J.C. Shapley ")

Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful, even if in a sense beyond our understanding and that there is always tomorrow. Dorothy Thompson (I like this one; it reminds me of my "Life is beautiful" mantra.)

The following are a random few that I saved in the past because they struck me at the time:

It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else. Erma Bombeck

Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict. William Ellery Channing

Suffering! We owe to it all that is good in us, all that gives value to life; we owe to it pity, we owe to it courage, we owe to it all the virtues. Anatole France French Writer, 1844-1924

Without courage, you cannot practice any other virtue. You have to have courage - courage of different kinds: first, intellectual courage, to sort out different values and make up your mind about which is the one which is right for you to follow. You have to have moral courage to stick up to that - no matter what comes in your way, no matter what the obstacle and the opposition is. Indira Gandhi

The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart. Robert G. Ingersoll

If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it. John Irving A Prayer for Owen Meany

Everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow the talent into the dark place where it leads. Erica Jong

Some people think only intellect counts -- knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion and empathy. Dean Koontz

There is only one thing that remains to us, that cannot be taken away: to act with courage and dignity and to stick to the ideals that have given meaning to life. Jawaharlal Nehru

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage. Anais Nin (1903-1977) French-American writer

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.' Mary Anne Radmacher-Hershey

You gain strength, courage & confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. Anna Eleanor Roosevelt

If you have courage, you will influence people based on your convictions. If you lack courage, you will influence people based on your comfort zones. Courage will take you anywhere you believe God is leading you. Without courage, you will go where you are comfortable. Wayne Schmidt

You can be discouraged by failure, or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes, make all you can. Because, remember that's where you'll find success – on the far side of failure. Thomas J Watson Sr

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear. Mark Twain

To dream anything that you want to dream, that is the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do, that is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself, to test your limits, that is the courage to succeed. unknown

Moral courage and character go hand in hand .... a man of real character is consistently courageous, being imbued with a basic integrity and a firm sense of principle. Martha Boaz

  1. This was my favorite quote:

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.' Mary Anne Radmacher-Hershey

Thank you for sharing these quotes. I think I am going to print this out for those days when I need a reminder.

  2. Caroline - See? That's the never-give-up in you. We all need reminders at times. I have several that I carry in my purse or other places close to me. One of mine is "We can not change the wind, but we can adjust the sails." When I (finally) realize that I can't seem to make progress in my course and "change my sails," I usually realize that the course I was on was the wrong one! Having the courage to change is a biggie for me! You'd think I'm stubborn, wouldn't you? LOL (hysterically, maniacally)!! Think of the irony here ... you need reminded to keep after it; I need reminded to back off!! Aren't we the pair????
