These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

The Kitty Saga Continues

Today I was leaving to go to the Gallery for a little while, and as the dogs and I went out the door I noticed that I hadn't yet fed The Kitty. So we stopped a moment on the deck while I filled the little dish. We proceeded down the steps, and at the bottom I opened the car door to put my purse and bag in the car while the dogs hit the driveway to do their business. BTW, my dogs are like kids ... they know that you always go pee before you get into the car because you never know when Mom will stop again! LOL!

While all this was going on, I heard a little "Meow" behind me, and when I looked, there was The Kitty, sitting under the stairs looking at me between the steps. Every time I spoke to him, he meowed back. So I said, "OK, Kitty, we need to talk. You need a name. Do you like 'Jack'?"

"Meow."

"OK, how 'bout 'Wilson'?"

"Meow."

"Alright, how about 'Harry'?"

"Meow."

"Do you like 'Fred'?"

"Meow."

"Would you like to be 'Winky'?"

"Meow."

"What do you think about 'Sumo'?"

"Meow."

"Well, I think I've covered all the names. What would you like to be called?"

Without a comment, he jumped between two steps, ran up the stairs and onto the deck. Then once he was on the bench with his dish, he looked at me, gave one more "Meow," and began eating. I spoke to him a couple more times, but he just continued eating.

I'm guessing he doesn't care about what I call him, as long as I call him for dinner.

Ba-da-boom!!!!!

Sorry, I didn't intend to write that line about dinner, but after typing out the "conversation," it just seemed to fall in there. sighhhh. Some nuttiness is irrepressible.

Later this afternoon, I finally got around to taking the Christmas decorations down to the basement. When I went out the door, I moved a couple things to have a clear path, and then when I began pulling the first tote down the ramp, it was rather noisy, going clunk, clunk, clunk over each crack between boards. When I'd covered just three or four feet, The Kitty went shooting out from under the stairs or the ramp, I'm not sure which. It must have sounded very loud under there, and he was obviously spooked. He tore around the corner of the house and into the woods. Poor thing. I didn't know he was there or I would have warned him by talking to him and starting down the ramp more tentatively. I felt so bad.

The good thing is, I'm thinking he really is living under my deck/steps/ramp. Hurray! Maybe he is actually going to become my kitty-in-residence!! Time will tell, but meanwhile, I'll keep feeding him and keeping him alive as best I can, especially through the winter. We are set for a snow storm tonight and tomorrow. Don't know how much we'll actually get, but hopefully, The Kitty will stay sheltered under there. As soon as I can figure out where he is sleeping, I'll begin moving a little shelter of some kind closer and closer in hopes that he will adopt it.

I hope I can make his life better, as much as possible. Hopefully, one day he will meow....

....Life is beautiful!!!

  1. I think you already have made this kitty's life better -- you have provided food and shelter (even if it isn't indoor shelter -- it's under the deck), taken him under your wing -- I think this one is sticking around...and your ba-da-boom was just begging to be said!!! :)

  2. Sherry, I surely hope I have. I have a feeling he is a nice cat, and I'm hoping to make his life as good as possible. The way he talks to me makes me think that he wants to be a buddy. Hope so.

Hey, I know you read "For Better or For Worse." Did you read today's? Oh, so sweet! I got tears in my eyes. If the world had more people like Iris, we'd have a lot less ... divorce, war, family feuding, road rage, neighborhood disputes, etc., take your choice. I love that strip.

  3. Yep I think you've already made this kitty's life pretty beautiful too. Lucky kitty!

  4. Kitty's life has become better with you in his life. Lucky kitty indeed. Maybe his name should be Lucky?? But I still like Jack.

  5. I need to get you out a little more...you're STILL talking about cats? Sheesh!!! LOL :-)

    Love ya!

  6. Lynilu,
If he is sleeping under the steps/deck, can you put some insulated baby blankets under there, like maybe something down-waterproof that he could huddle under if he gets cold. Or a small dog house, and line it with a cat pillow, sleeper thing they sell in the pet stores, you know, the round or oval sheepskin things just big/tall enough to cradle the lower body of a sleeping act ?
I hate to think of him freezing to death, and it doesn't sound like he is ready to come into the house yet...

  7. Patti, I'm glad he is sticking around and talking with me. He doesn't seem intimidated by the dogs, but they didn't actually see him either, and they are both hard of hearing, so didn't hear his meow. I jjust hope I can keep him alive and reasonable comfortable for the rest of his life.

    Daisy, Lucky Jack? :D

Dawn, Dawn, Dawn!! You really must be more tuned in to the world outside your head!!! :D

    Love ya back!!

Annie, there is a dog house out back, but it is huge. I'l looking for something smaller to accommodate his size. Great suggestions!! I've been shredding papers all afternoon as a part of my purging. I now have to large bags full of shredded paper. I looked on line to see if I could use it to mulch when I plant a lawn, and I picked up that I could also use it to insulate a pet environment!! When I find the right container, I'll line it with shredded paper, layer with a sheepskin-type material and hopefully, it will make a nice shelter for the sweet kitty.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

  8. Lynilu the names suggested are hilarious....to me Jack sounds like a....rabbit?

Lucky is nice just because he/she was very lucky to have wandered your way.

  9. I hope The Kitty settles in for a long time.

  10. If I were a stray, I would want to come live with you.

I think it is so funny when they meow. Our cat sits in front of the tub each morning and meows until we give her some drips from the tub. You would think we gave her no water, but we do . . .

I like Wilson, by the way! You should try and get a few more pictures, you know, in your spare time!

  11. I think he wants to be called "Meow". :)

  12. Ruth, LOL! We have jackrabbits here, and he, ma'am, is no jackrabbit! LOL!! And a vote for Lucky.

Moanna, me too! I think he could be nice to have around.

Beans, awww, thanks! It's odd how some cats meow a lot and others just seem very quiet. I've had both kinds.

OK, another vote for Wilson. And I'll get pictures when he lets me. I figure he will be OK with that soon! Uh, well, unless he's taking tips from my camera-shy dogs!!

Casey, you may be right!!! LOL!! OK, "Meow" is now on the list!!

  13. Oh I missed "For Better or For Worse" today -- must go see if I can find it...

Lynn Johnston is having her own "woes" these days -- she and her husband have divorced so I suppose ending the strip is "the right time" in so many ways.

  14. i'm a cat girl myself.
there's just something about a cat.
if you win this one over, then there's something to be said about you too!

  15. Sherry, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I didn't know she was going down for the count!! Wow, I hate to see that. Her family tales in FB or FW have so greatly paralleled my own family in many ways, and I related to the strip because of that. :'(

Cameo, I'm guessing that this cat knows I'm felineless for the first time in my life and is trying to fill the gap! I doubt this one could be a domesticated house cat, but I'd be OK to just know he has a "home."

    OK, I'll do that!

  16. I've never been able to just look at an animal and come up with a name. I usually have to live with them a little while. My orange cat went by the name of "The orange cat" for almost a year. After all that you'd think I'd have come up with something brilliant, but I finally just called her Pumpkin. Sheeshh! Good luck with the naming, I'm no help at all!

I'm so glad you're feeding him though, sounds like he really needed you.

  17. Ok, I also like Casey's suggestion..Meow is really cute. But I still like Wilson..(does this count as another vote???)

  18. Sandra, OK, I'm thinking there is a good reason that you don't have children!!! LOL!

I'm glad I discovered that he was hanging out and started feeding him. I hate to think of any animal without food. And he looks like he's had a rough life already, so If I can make it easier on him from now on, we'll both be happy.

Oh, Caroline, what am I to do with you??? After all the ruckus you made about Wilson, now you want Meow!!!

    sighhhh. Kids.

    :D

  19. You must have misunderstood me...I Like Meow, but my vote is still for Wilson. (Hey, that makes 2 more votes for Wilson...)
