I needed to clean house, and I thought today would be good for that. Since it was going to be cooler with a chance of snow tonight, it made sense to be inside today. This morning was cooler than yesterday, but still very nice. I was in and out a little bit, rant into town for a handful of groceries to prepare dinner tonight, and was actually on the warm side in a long-sleeved sweater, no jacket.
At around 2:30 I looked at the thermometer, and it said it was 53 degrees. Some wind was blowing, but not really bad.
At 3:30 I called Gail to chat a bit and during our conversation I looked out the window. It was snowing!! Huge, big flakes the size of quarters were swirling all over the place! I walked to the living room and checked the thermometer. It was 37 degrees! And 20 minutes later it was 33!
The snow continued to come down, but it was melting immediately because the ground was still warm. I had dinner guests arriving around 4:20, and it was still snowing, beginning to stick just a little. We had appetizers and wine, sat and chatted a while, and ... well, you know. When they left at about 7:30 (some had to go across the mountain to Ruidoso and were feeling perhaps they should get going) I had around 2 inches on the ground. Allan called me when he got home, going the opposite direction from Ruidoso, and he said he had a virtual white-out on the way!
And now, almost 10:00, I have close to four inches as best I can tell. It is blowing, at times very hard, so the snow is moving around. But there is a lot of it! And it is 21 degrees out there! What a day!
I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and the company. I made my favorite "company meal," a pasta with shrimp and marinated veggies in olive oil and garlic. Very easy, so I have time to enjoy the guests! A salad, chilled asparagus and crusty bread with olive oil for dipping rounded out the menu. Oh, we finished with a small dessert. I didn't make this, but got it at my NM wine store where they carry lots of gourmet foods. I bought tiny, bite size tart shells and jars of filling to go in them. We had one each of lemon, key lime, and vanilla. They were all three awesome!
I had a great weekend, and finishing up with a nice dinner with friends was the perfect ending! Even with a mini-blizzard going on!!
Life is beautiful!!!
WOW, that's amazing! I mean, not just the snow, but how the temp can drop like that. Being in Ga, that happens quite often.
ReplyDeleteGlad your dinner went well. What did you cook? I'm sure it was something yummy!
Take care.
Dawn, Dawn, Dawn! Yes I cooked! See the next to last paragraph! LOL!! Now I know how thoroughly you read my precious words!! Tee hee hee!!!
ReplyDeleteTemperatures swings are not really uncommon here, either, but it is always a shock when it goes from gentle spring to deep winter in a few hours, isn't it?
Isn't weather so strange and funny sometimes?! I wish it would happen here like in the movie "Snow Day"
ReplyDeletePatti, sheesh, right! I think the "official" high yesterday was 54, today 35 (and a ton of snow), tomorrow 61. b.i.z.a.r.r.e!!!
