These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Weekend, Day 1

Last night as I left the house to go out to dinner, my "check engine" light came on again. ARGHHHH!!!  This morning, I called  the dealership, not sure that anyone would be in the service department, but there was, and I have an appointment on Wednesday. Geez, I hope they can find it. This is plum ridiculous! And irritating! Fortunately the "gas cap" message isn't present, though. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, a renewed old problem or a brand new one.

Dinner last night was so nice. Our hostess served a chicken curry. I'm not usually fond of curry. I think most people put too much curry for my taste, and it is way too hot. It's like chilies.... I love chilies, but too much, too hot, isn't tasty, it's just hot. but what the hostess made was fantastic! Served with couscous, chutney, and tzatziki sauce. Oh .... my .... gawd!

We ate in her beautiful, peaceful garden. She had designed the most meditative, restorative garden I've seen in a long, long time, and it was so pleasant eating there, visiting with good friends and enjoying being in the moment. After dinner, we gathered around her chiminea and had coffee or tea and visited some more, telling stories, laughing. It was a lovely evening in every aspect. Toward the end the air was a bit chilly, even around the fire, and I wished I'd brought a light wrap, but it wasn't enough to spoil the evening.   I love times like this. Good friends, good food, and a sense of peace.

Today I had some errands to run. I got into Rui and I could not believe the numbers, the hordes of tourists! Talk about a last hurrah to summer, it seemed as if everyone in the world was here! The tourist area, the shopping district, was literally swarming with people on the sidewalk and vehicles in the streets. Unfortunately, I had to drive through this part of town as my two stops there were at either end of that district, and to avoid it, I would have had to drive about 5 miles each detour. I bit my lip and did my stuff.

I dropped off some art to be framed. Do you remember the Mexican painting I brought back from Tucson in May?

I'm particularly excited about getting this one done. The framer and I came up with a delightful combination of mat, background and frame, and I think it will be amazing! She said it should be done in about a week.

As I was leaving town, I saw a sale at a clothing store. Many racks were outside, and I thought I'd stop and see what was there. I came away with a pant and top outfit, a skirt, and a shirt that I will wear as a jacket or cover to an outfit that I'm taking to Hawaii. I paid $25 for what was originally priced at over $100. Boy, was I happy!

Those errands done, I went to Capitan and dropped off some things at the thrift shop, then went to Linda's shop to visit a while. A couple other friends  dropped by and we had a fabulous visit. Not only that, but we walked down the street to my former bosses house. He has a fantastic garden, and he let us take whatever we wanted. I brought home some fresh basil and eight or ten green tomatoes! I can't wait to have friend green tomatoes! I ended up staying in town for over three hours! And I brought home some things from Linda's shop, too, mostly Flax brand. I did a killing on clothes today!

A few minutes ago, the dogs began barking crazily. I went to the deck, then hurried back in to grab the camera. Here is what I saw .....

Momma deer was leading her two little ones through the yard! They had just stopped for a drink at the drinkin' hole.
How precious are these two? I hope they stick close and allow me to watch them grow up like the two previous ones.
It's been a good day. Hope yours has been as good.

.... Life is beautiful!!!!

  1. Oh my, I was beginning to think that I was the only one left here. I guess everyone else is busy too!
I can't believe that you mentioned fried green tomatoes Lyn, Katie just picked the last few this afternoon. She and her friend fried them and some pickles up!
I loved your picture. I didn't remember it so I don't know if I was following you then, although I thought that I was. Who knows, time flies so quickly. Before you know it you'll be taking off for Hawaii!
The deer looked so sweet. We've been starting to watch for them more lately, it's getting to be that time of year here.
I hope there's nothing seriously wrong with your truck. I wish you luck with that. Oh and your evening with friends sounded very nice. It has finally cooled off here as well! No AC at all today!!!! Love Di ♥

  2. I've been putting the errands off, and I wanted to get it over with. I guarantee the rest of the weekend will be less busy.

I love FGT. Love, love, love them! Tomorrow I'm doing some ribs and FGT. What else is on the menu is inconsequential! I like fried pickles, but I've never tried to make them. Got a good recipe?

I'm glad it has cooled off for most of us. I always look forward to the time of the year when the nights are cool enough to sleep really well. It's here!

    Have a fabulous weekend!!

  3. I am feeling much better today so I am hoping to get outside to at least hang some laundry!
As for the fried pickles, I have never made them but Katie's are good. She just uses a flower cornmeal mix. I will ask her about the rest later. I don't know if she dips them in egg or milk. I have never tried them with store bought pickles but with my DIL's canned pickles they are great! Love Di ♥

  4. Well Dang, I'm gonna need some of your DIL's pickles, then!! LOL! Yeah, if she will share, I'd appreciate it.

I'm very impressed with Katie! A 15 year old that not only cooks, but she is making something that is without her mom's recipe but her own!! Now that's a unique and innovative young woman!

I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been dealing with a minor attack of fibromyalgia over the last 3-4 days, and I'm tired of it. It isn't enough to stop me from doing pretty much everything I want/need to, but certainly a nuisance.

Gotta get the ribs on to slow cook and pop on the grill later. See ya!

  5. I hope your feeling better this evening Lyn. The ribs sound good!
I asked Katie about the pickles, she made a batch today and they were delicious. I had it a bit wrong. She does dip them in an egg/milk mixture first then in a 50/50 flour, Italian flavored bread crumb mix. Than fry. They were very, very good! Feel better!
    Love Di ♥

  6. I'm doing much better, rough starting in the AM, but it clears before long.

I will give her recipe a try. I've read all kinds of recipes for it today, and some of them are too complex to even consider. This one sound good .... and easy!!

  7. I tried to leave a comment yesterday, but a error msg came up.

I love the pics of the deer. I can't beleive I live in the country and I don't see deer as often as I did when I was in KC. I miss seeing them outside my front door like I did when I was in my apt. I guess around here they really go into hiding because of hunting. :)

Would you believe I have ever tried Fried Green Tomatoes? I guess this is another thing that I need to add to the list of things to do when I come visit you.

  8. I was having some trouble with that yesterday, too.

The only deer I saw while I lived in KC were dead beside the highway, so this is just such a delight for me. I think we see them a lot here, because we are a safe place for them, too. No hunting in this residential area, so close to the wilderness, and they really do flock here this time of the year.

Well, you'll have to come when we can find some green tomatoes, then! They are sinfully good! And after my conversations with Di, I'm going to try my hand at making fried pickles, too, and I know you love those. :) We'll go easy on the fried food because of your dietary needs, but a little will be yummy!!!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
