These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Stieg Larsson Trilogy .... at last!

A long while ago I bought the Stieg Larsson Millennium trilogy. They’ve been sitting in my Kindle, unread because they sorta got lost in the 1000+ books there. On my flight to Colorado, I decided it was time to read them.

I read the first, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, on the trip, finishing it the weekend after I got home. I loved it, of course! A few days later I began the second, The Girl Who Played With Fire. I was 2/3 through it, and last night decided to finish it. I was reading voraciously and was nearly finished. I had decided to stay up until I completed it, but around 11:00, I dropped off to sleep several times, and knew that I needed to let the last couple chapters wait until this morning. After all, it was going to be Sunday, and what better thing to do but stay in bed with my carafe of coffee and a couple of ginger crisps, to complete the good read.
Side note: I had planned to go to spiritual services today, but a little mishap last night told me I was not going to do so. More on that in a bit. And TL, quit stewing, it was just a little thing.
This morning, I woke after sleeping till almost 8:00 (yippee!), made my coffee, and crawled back in bed with the pups, the coffee mug and carafe, and the Kindle. I read just a few paragraphs and was shocked into complete awakeness! (I know that’s not a real word, buzz off!)

I had figured out several of the twists and turns in the plot, who some of the characters were and their places in the scheme of the book, a few of the whodunnits, but not THAT!! If I’d stayed awake long enough to read the net few paragraphs, I would have been awake to finish the book last night, because I would have been immediately wide awake!! So THAT’S how he figured in the story!!! OMG!!

I’m not saying more, because if you haven’t read the book, I don’t want to take away your right to have the same Holy-Toledo-moment! WOW!! If you’ve read it, you know what I’m talking about, right?

I'm starting the third and, sadly, final book as soon as I sign off here. I can't wait, 'cause I'm kinda left dangling and very hungry!

Now, about the mishap; a bit hard to explain, but here goes ....
Last night I was playing with the dogs, a bit of scuffling on the floor. We were having a good time, I was throwing toys for them to chase and playing keep-away, too. At one point Max got a bit huffy. He hasn’t figured out the game of fetch and doesn’t play with toys, and that only adds to his frustration over the games I play with the others. When I do this I try to also play with him by rolling him end over end, catching his tail for a moment, as well as petting him a lot. He is SO jealous of the other, especially the boys, Sam and Joey.

I’m not exactly sure what happened. I think as I was holding a toy over Joey’s head, he stood on his hind legs trying to reach it, and when he lost balance, came down on Max. At any rate, Max tore into Joe, and I think as I drew my hand down, it was between the two boys. It was so fast, that is just my best guess. Max bit my wrist. I assume my own movement caused a “slashing” action, and there are several “cuts” on the top of my wrist. It’s not deep, but deep enough to bleed profusely for a few minutes. And it hurt like a sumbich!! There were definitely some bruising of muscles thrown in for good measure!

I cleaned the gashes and medicated them, then wrapped gauze around the wrist to keep the blood and medication contained. I hated to go into public this morning wearing a bandage that looks like I slashed my wrist last night!

I took some arthritis-strength Tylenol to ease the pain last night, probably one factor to falling asleep so early. This morning, there is some muscle soreness, but I can see that there is no serious damage. It’s sore, but that will subside soon. In fact, it is already much better than when I woke this morning.

I’d show you a picture of the gore (LOL!) but I’ve already rebandaged it, and I’m not going to undo it. No, it’s not gory, but just three or four nicks in my skin and one about 3/4” long. As I said, deep enough to bleed well, but that’s about it.

My life. Aren’t you jealous???

BWAAA ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

  1. Thanks for sparing us the gore. We've had enough of that on the international news. Hope you heal quickly.

  2. The reason
I don't watch TV news! Thanks!

  3. Understand avoiding public scrutiny. Hard to explain slashed wrist by dog! Well, your life is never boring! And neither are your furry housemates!

  4. I agree, the books in that trilogy were all good and I do remember that ending as shocking too! Everything gets tied up nicely in the third book. I enjoyed all three except all the intricate workings of the government/police dept, etc., and blew past those parts.

Sorry to hear about the bites. Sounds painful. Hope they heal soon.

  5. I'm lazy. I watched the movies instead. :) Loved them and I imagine the books are better ... someday perhaps! Be well!

  6. Have you had your tetanus shots brought up to date?

I've only read the first in the trilogy so far, must get down to number two soon. Trouble is I have a huge pile of unread books waiting.

  7. Yet more books to add to the pile. Thanks for the recommendation.

  8. LC, I laughed out loud at that! "Death by dog" sounds like a really bad novel, doesn't it?? Too funny!

Deb, I've started the third book, and I can't wait to gt through it! On the other hand, I hate for it to end. Larsson was an excellent writer. Too bad his death came so soon.

And the bites are already healing nicely, thanks!

Bob, I want to watch the movies, too. First time I've wanted to compare books to movies in a long time, but I see these as being "translatable."

Friko, yes, my tetanus is current. It took me a while to figure out when I had my last one, but I'm in good shape.

I have a sweatshirt that says "So many books, so little time." So true!

Freda, you won't regret adding these to the stack! You're welcome!

  9. Hope you are healing. I've read the first two books in the trilogy and need to read the third, but as your sweatshirt says "So many books, so little time."

  10. Ohhh, SVB, I don't know how you could read the second one with that cliffhanger ending and not dive immediately into #3!!!

  11. I've had similar incidents with my cats, so I know exactly what you're talking about!! Wrong place/wrong time!

I couldn't get into the first book of the series. I think it was in a foreign country? I don't care for those for the dialect and detail. ADHD or OCD perhaps? Who can know! Guess it will be the movies for me, but all the video stores are closing!!!

  12. MM, I sometimes have that problem with settings in unfamiliar lands, but here is what I do .... make sure the laptop is near to look at maps to place the locations in my head, to look up strange words, foods, etc. Then I can read on without a problem. I actually didn't find most of that a distraction in this particular series. It is so well written (and translated) as to take most of that out of the equation.

I have actually tried new foods because of this method of grounding myself in the context of the book! When I look them up, some sound yummy, so I also find a recipe and try making it myself.

  13. I've heared that Stieg Larsson has a large following. Maybe I could interest my wife in trying them. She's the avid reader in this family.

Ouch! (the dog bite). At least it wasn't my son's Boston Terrier. That dog has powerful jaws. They had to pry him off a bigger dog, retriever size, once. You're smart to keep the smaller pets.

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
