These are random musings of my life journey, the people, animals, places, and events which have woven, and continue to weave, a tapestry that is me. We all know there is no real destination, only the ongoing experiences which blend together, creating the trail. Each step gives a glimpse of what is to come, without allowing me to see the end result. It is exciting. I have a home base that is mine, that gives me a place to rest. This is it. This is where my heart is, no matter where I journey...................

Dis 'n' dat 'n' sumthin' else

Well, time for an update, and likely the last. My hand is healing very nicely, and I doubt I'll think about it for future posts. Who knows?

The worst appearing areas are still a little crusty with thick necrotic skin that is protecting the healing areas underneath.  It looks icky, but it is really not bad, at all. At this time, I'm thinking the scarring will be minimal to nothing. Despite the fact that part of this was 3rd degree burn, I don't think it has done as much damage as I originally feared. Or perhaps the care I got, from my own quick thinking at the time, from my doctor, and from the nurses at work, has helped prevent severe aftereffects. Whatever, I'm thankful for it.

Those of you who have been reading here a long time might remember two little fawns born the year I moved into this house (2007). Two little spotted boys, following after their mother, they gave me so much delight. The following summer, as I was bringing home new canine residents, I enjoyed watching the two little bucks sprout their antler spikes.  They were still hanging close to their mother, and they learned this place was relatively safe for them, in spite of the barking of my pups. Also check here, and here to see some of the growth they made over time. Their mother hung out here until last year when she jumped into a neighbor's small fenced yard and died there. Don't know if she broke a leg in the jump or what. The neighbor had a heavy heart as he loaded her pregnant carcass into his truck to take her down to the highway for pick up. All of us in the neighborhood had enjoyed watching her raise two sets of twins in the years since I was here, and we were looking forward to the expected one(s). We all miss her a lot.

This morning the dogs were barking a little bit. I didn't think much about it because that is routine, but I eventually got up to see what they were so persistent about. The two "boys" and their girls were out back. Oh my, they look so grand! Yes, they still hang out here, together most of the time. I suspect they separate during mating season, but the rest of the year they are together with eight or ten does. I grabbed the camera, but the herd was was moving away, into the forested area where I couldn't get a good shot. Then one of "the boys" moved into an open area on the neighbor's property, and I got this pic. Unfortunately, he ducked his head just as I shot, but you'll see the antlers if you look closely.

Sadly, those antlers, now becoming so wide and beautiful, may make "the boys" targets for a hunter's site. I hope not.

I'm dealing with an uneasy tummy today. Just something "going around," I suppose. Early last week I had a touch of diarrhea, then a few days of settling down, and finally yesterday, my stomach was hurting. Not queasy or sick feeling just hurting a bit. I spent the day on crackers, tea, and Jell-O, just to be on the safe side. Today is much better, but I'm still a bit cautious. More of the scrumptious diet for today, as well. Exciting, huh?

A few cute pix of the pups. This morning, Sammy was lying on the kitchen floor with his nose into the table legs. Nope, I don't know why either! It made me chuckle, though.

A couple days ago as I was about to leave for work I was saying goodbye to the pups. I saw Lola under the bed.  I could hear her saying, "But Mom, I don't want you to go!!"

A couple feet away, Jazi was watching me take the photo, and in my head, she looked as if she was saying, "It's OK, Mom. I'll take care of the little one while you're gone."

Of course, my daughter pointed out to me that Jaz would take care of things .... as long as it didn't interfere with her planning her next escape from the grounds!! LOL! So true!

OK, I need to go and be productive around the house for a while. You know, a few tasks left over from yesterday. Just a few. Really.

Later, y'all!

Update: About an hour after taking the picture of Sam, he had been up running around, went outside several times. I walked through the kitchen again, and he was back in that same position! I have no idea what is going on. I hope it isn't dementia setting in; he will be nine this year, a bit early, I think for that. But until I decide that I need to worry about that .... it is humorous!

  1. So glad your hand is healing. That kind of thing can really pull you down. What a lovely deer picture. So nice to see with all those flower heads adding texture to it.

    1. I wish the wire mesh hadn't been out there, but as you know, when you photograph wildlife, you take shots when and where you can! The neighbor had been out working a while before, and I suppose he was taking a break. Nevertheless, I was happy to see "my boy."

  2. I was going to say that Jaz certainly would take care of things - like showing the others how to get out of the yard and go exploring! Glad your hand is healing.

  3. My brother fell into a large bonfire last year and really burned his hand badly. It was very ugly but no third degree burns. He says now he knows when to say when (being tipsy can hurt if you're not careful).

  6. I’m glad to see that your hand is getting better and fit for work again. Pity, I love an excuse not to work!

There is so much enjoyment to be had just from watching other creatures, tame or wild. They are so much less inhibited and so much more natural than humans. I hope your boys will survive for a long time and that those little fur balls in your home behave themselves.

    1. Well, Friko, The problem is that I have been limited in what I could do for almost a month, and there is no one else living here to do it for me!

I dearly love watching my dogs and the wildlife. Truly a benefit of living where I do. :)

    1. I don't think so, Dakota. He would easily have been able to pull something like that out. He was actually snoring! He hasn't done it since that day, either. In my house, there are often little things like this that are odd and humorous!

If you have something to say about it, just stick out your thumb, and I'll slow down so you can hop aboard! But hang on, 'cause I'm movin' on down the road!!! No time to waste!!!
